Bottle from Bottle Shop at home. Opaque black pour, light tan head. Aroma is rich dark chocolatey roasted malts with a savory (in a good way) note too. Wood too. Nice. Taste is very smooth - bitter, very round, big roasted malt and boozy punch, but not as much as some other imperial stouts. Rich smooth palate without being heavy. Different from most big imperial stouts in its smoothness and round flavors. Good.

There’s an off-putting aroma of three-day old sliced ham overlaying some roasted coffee and toast aromas. The taste is more pleasant though that off ham is still present, and the palate is a little thin.

On tap at Royston Hotel, Melbourne. Coffee is apparent on the nose. Pours pale and slightly cloudy. Clean mouthfeel. Coffee emerges as beer warms, eventually overwhelming the more citrus hop profile. I struggled to get all the way through the glass as wet coffee notes really started to punch through. Nice effort though.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Slightly translucent orange-amber pour. Aroma is fruity citrus with some pine. Taste follows - a bit pinier and hollower than the fruitiness of the aroma. Fine carbonation. Solid IPA - would get again but at $45 a bit steep.

Pours out inky black with a small beige head. Aroma is normal stout, nothing to hint at the higher ABV or more robust taste. Taste brings in some chocolate, roast grains, burnt toast. Very mild, warmth come on late in the game. Not a heavyweight RIS, but a good contender in the middleweight class.

Bottle. Cloudy gold with a white head that fades rapidly. Aroma is grainy with lots of white pepper, mandarin, coriander. Not all that inviting. Taste is better - there’s a pleasing mandarin sweetness with some slightly tangy wheat behind it, some honey. Spices are not all that prominent, but more vibrant that suggested by the aroma. Not quite so strong that it’s not refreshing, so it still functions as a Wit. Let down a bit by the aroma, but not bad.

(Bottle) Clear dark brown with no head - looks like flat coke. Pleasant and unusual aroma - a nice interesting and rich smokiness - definitely wood, but reminds me of bacon! Maybe a hint of coffee. Light body and light carbonation. Taste is pleasant and interesting - the smokiness is the most apparent component, and it has a richness to it, it is just what is needed to add interest to what is otherwise quite a basic beer. There’s some pleasant dark roast malt sweetness undertones, and a little porter sharpness. It’s a pleasant take on a smoked porter - not challenging like some smoked beers and some porters can be - but there is room for improvement.
