Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of peaches, lemons, straw, and yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of yeast, fruits, wheat, and straw, leading to a dry, yeasty, and lemony finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a cloudy golden with an off-white head. Some initial yeast in the nose but then comes the Sorachi Ace comes through. Medium body, heavy tropical fruit notes, a little yeast and then a solid bitterness. Just proves that Sorachi Ace works well with Belgian yeast also. 140212

A lovely IPA overall. Lacks a bit of body, but has a nice IPA finish. Lots of grapefruit in the aroma.

From a 330ml bottle on 16/9/2011. Pours a cloudy, light golden colour with a small head. Has a prominent fruity, yeasty aroma with some floral notes. Taste wise, there’s heaps of sweet citrus and a big dose of hops. This is a very nice, well balanced beer.

Bottle. Clear gold with excellent white head. Lovely lemony flowery aroma with hints of passionfruit and grapefruit. Medium body nicely carbonated - a little more carbonated than I expected but not too much. The flavour is hop dominated from start to finish. It’s not overwhelmed by hops, but definitely dominated. At the start there are some fresher brighter (grapefruit?) flavours present and in the middle there is pleasant undercurrent of malt. Overall, it’s a full on, but not brutally, hoppy IPA in the US style. It’s a good example of this style, and enjoyable, but for my preference, there’s too much hoppy bitterness.

Bottle. Hazy yellowy orange with an inch of white head that fades to a coat but laces well. Looks like a wit. Lemon sherbet, white pepper, coriander and some leafy herbal notes. Light body. Punchy spices and zesty lemon taste with some yeasty sourness. Not totally dominated by Sorachi Ace, but it’s certainly lemony and herbal. Refreshing.

Tap. Dark brown with a small light beige head. Aroma of chocolate, mace, vanilla, modest but obvious smoke. Much smokier taste with light roast, chocolate. Didn’t get much coffee. A little overcarbonated Thought it was a little thin before I saw it was only 4.5%. Liked the refined aroma and the contrastingly more free-wheeling taste. [3.4] Bottle, 4.9%. OK, there’s the coffee. Remarks otherwise the same. Solid.

Tap. Gold with a white head. Intense kumquat aroma with some pine and flowers. Vanilla and vinous oaky notes are there but don’t overwhelm. But they do in the taste. Normal Hop Hog (to me) is a great-smelling but middling-tasting beer and here the beer flavours are just swamped by sharp oak. Some caramel sweetness. Oaky finish.
