Description
ShuBrew was opened in 2013 by Zachary and Erika Shumaker as a restaurant and brewery on Main Street in downtown Zelienople, PA. Their vision was to offer the community a selection of beers that they themselves love and food that would elevate the brewery experience. Our then chef and now partner, Patrick Wyman, took the menu to a new level and brought a from-scratch kitchen and cuisines from all over the world to our small town. Today Isaiah Yohn and Chris Taylor run our kitchen like a well-oiled machine and partnering with local purveyors, suppliers, and farmers daily, enabling seasonal menu changes and food designed to pair perfectly with a pint.
In 2016 the brewery moved to nearby Harmony, PA and while we don’t brew on-site anymore, we still have beer vibes permeating MainStreet.
In 2019, we became the first Butler county restaurant to earn a platinum designation from Sustainable Pittsburgh. We are doing our part to build a vibrant community and support environmentally responsible practices while giving customers a fun, friendly environment to eat, drink, and be merry!
We do take reservations and are on the Yelp waitlist for Android and iPhone. We also offer an intimate party room that can be rented for private functions; business related or personal.
Not into beer? Check out our wonderful selection of signature cocktails made with local spirits, local PA wine, and cider.
ShuBrew isn't just great beer and food. ShuBrew is a symbol of quality, sustainability, and local partnerships.

Really interesting label. Meant to look like a homebrew. Pours a clear mahogany color with a large beige head, some slow gushing. A big malty, vinous, oak nose. The flavor is subtle whiskey, vanilla, cherries, malty sweet base. Mellow while also being quite big. This works well.

Bottle 180. Pours a clear orange copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is spice, pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon. Medium mouth, light booze, caramel, spice, light pumpkin, good.

Big black pour with a grey brown choco moose head. Head fades rapidly. Typical foreign or impy stout aroma. Creamy feel on the palate with little co2. Taste is somewhat foreign stout too but fer sure this is a little more civilized than many F stouts such as Lion. Much more behaved fer sure. Does have an impactive personality. Rather strong for 5% rated here, must be at least 6%. Becomes a little medicinal near the end. Yes, roasty stuff inthere fer sure.

Smell is like wrenching IPA BO, typical of the strong IPA style. Cloudy brown looks like a dark hefe. Thin rocky head. Very little if any co2 on the palate. Quite strong armed and mouth coating. Rude. Does not hide its alky content well. Did I say rude? Yes but onstyle if you like these things. Nice lacing on the glass. Nasty Nellie and trumping teddy. Becomes difficult after a while for this lager lover Wew, I think I’m getting a tad dizzy, better find a designated driver. If you like strong ales, ignore my numbers and do this brew, you will not be disappointed.

This was an odd draft experience. After he poured it he dropped in a couple drops of lactic acid with an eyedropper, quite unique. What this means I don’t know. Should have asked for mine to be without the treatment. Smell is crisp and clean. Taste is clean and fresh as well. Gets along good with my taste buds. The taste definately is a bit tart, i guess it was from those drops. Good overall beer experience considering the mystery.

Typical IPA contemporary mild BO aroma. Looks a bit cloudy. Not bad for an IPA as far as I’m concerened, I’m not really an IPA fan. Has some decent co2 about it that makes it somewhat palatable. Not as viscous as most IPA and not as mouth caoting either.

Look, I am always nervous about being the first to rate a brew especially for a new business; I was a business owner myself and know what the internet can do to you. S, take my unexpertise with a grain of salt, this stuff was on style. Slightly fruity presentation in the aroma. Not the smell of your typical IPA. It seems to have more sugar in there than ruder IPA. Pale yellow in color. Perhaps a tad darker than pale yellow. Taste is simply big fresh IPA, may be the freshest IPA I ever had. Terribly on style, as far as what I know about IPA. Better thy this if yer into the IPA thing. Kicks you in the mouth, bang you in the palte . This dude knows what he’s doing, ignore my numbers if you like IPA.

A hefe that is on style IMHO. Full of banana flavors and smells but not over the top in spices. Lacks any rude attribute. Smooth and easy, good job on this one!

From the start, the aroma is sweet and volatile. The taste is sweet and volatile as well. Somewhat cloying. Probably could be aged to bring out more civility. Needs more manners. Although very barleywine like, there is some goodness upfront before it gets in yer face. Just a big strong ale with lots of sweetness in there. If you like strong ales, forget my rating numbers. Not one of my favorite styles but this seems on style for what it is.

cloudy and orange. smell of mild b/o but in a good way, you know, yer mate’s. yes, that jala is present from the start but it sometimes overtakes the personality of this brew. not lots, but there is some heat in there. perhaps a bit of that jala pickle thoing going on. barely any co2. I’m not much of a ipa lover but the heat and flavor on this makes it almost acceptable, could use more co2.

Finally a chance to rate this rare beer, they hardly ever have it on tap. The smell is a little choco and malt, much less volatile than most impy stouts. Terribly strong and on tyle in the personality dept. Very little co2. Strong alky impressions thru out the session. What else can be said; its on style and rudish as all get out.
