Description
The farm was built in 1669 by abbess Johanna van Tilborch. The family escutcheon of the abbess is still hanging above the gate of the old farm. In 1936, the farm was bought by Theophile Cordonnier (1880 – 1965) together with the agriculture ground and the rest of the abbey. In 1985 was a new farm build opposite of the old farm. All the ground and buildings are still belonging to the children and grandchildren of Theophile Cordonnier.
All the basic products to produce the Halen Mariënrode abbey beers are still produced on the Mariënrode farm. Joseph Cordonnier ( born in 1932) is still in charge of the production of our products. He will be only satisfied when we produce the products of the highest quality. Quality has always been his only objective in the production of food on the farm.

Bottle. A very dark brown beer with a dense, beige head. Lightly roasted, chocolatey aroma with bread crust, toffee, some dried fruits, alcohol and piney, grassy hops. Yeast hints too. It's full-bodied, lightly warming and semi-sweet, with a nice carbonation. It's toffee-ish, chocolatey, bready and fruity in the mouth, with a decent bitterness, alcohol, grass hints and some yeasty spice notes in the flavor. Long finish with roasted malts, chocolate, toffee and some alcohol warmth. A quite decent dubbel, borderlining quad. 180602

At Brugs Bierfestival, 3 February 2018. Cheers to Anke, Ian, Kevin & Jerre!
Cloudy dark brown with a lasting, frothy, beige head. Aroma of licorice, caramel, candied fruits, raisin, hops & spices. Tastes light to medium caramel-like sweet and light to medium spicy/hoppy bitter with hints of nuts. The finish is hoppy and liqueur-like alcoholic with a bit of roasted malt. Full body, slick texture, soft carbonation. A Quadrupel as one would expect it to be, but with decent character.
