About
The farm was built in 1669 by abbess Johanna van Tilborch. The family escutcheon of the abbess is still hanging above the gate of the old farm. In 1936, the farm was bought by Theophile Cordonnier (1880 – 1965) together with the agriculture ground and the rest of the abbey. In 1985 was a new farm build opposite of the old farm. All the ground and buildings are still belonging to the children and grandchildren of Theophile Cordonnier.

All the basic products to produce the Halen Mariënrode abbey beers are still produced on the Mariënrode farm. Joseph Cordonnier ( born in 1932) is still in charge of the production of our products. He will be only satisfied when we produce the products of the highest quality. Quality has always been his only objective in the production of food on the farm.

Donkerbruin tot zwart bier met veel donker stevig schuim. Smaak is licht zoet, bitter hoppig met iets van karamel en bittere chokolade. Fijn bier.

Clear golden colour with thin lacy head. Flavour is quite sweet. The finish has a lot of aniseed.

Very dark brown colour. Aroma has lots of sweet sugary dried fruit like dates. Flavour is similar and also has touches of liquorice. Too sweet and boozy.

Really dark brown colour with lasting thin head. Aroma is sweet and fruity like jam. Flavour is similarly sweet and also has some caramel and dark malts too.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown color with a deep dark red glare coming through when held into the light. Medium sized light brown colored head. Aroma is a little faint, but perhaps the beer is a little too cold. Taste malts, dark overripe fruits, brown candy sugar, sweet raisins, a bit boozy. Medium body, firm almost fizzy carbonation. Hmm I don’t really like it.

Bottle shared. Hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of big caramel, toffee, overripe dark fruit, honey/floral notes and malt. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

33cl bottle shared with Kermis. Thin ring off white head. Hazy burgundy pour. Pretty sweet.
