Bottle. Extremely dark ruby maroon color, thin beige head with good retention. Aroma of ripe prunes, dates, blueberries, caramel. Taste is sweet and syrupy dark fruits. Light carbonation. An above average barley wine. Here’s hoping that the reinheitsgebot is dead once and for all!

(draught at Festival der Bierkulturen 2010, Köln) Hazy, light-brown colour with a beige and short foamy head. Sugary sweet and slightly toasted malty aroma with strong spicy notes. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft, even a bit flat carbonation. Syrupy malty taste with notes of berriers and cinnamon spice; sweet and slightly sticky sugary malty finish with notes of alcohol. Not my thing. 16.V.10

Draft at the brewpub. Clear golden color, large white head, solid lacing. Aroma of bubblegum, banana, clove. Taste is grapefruit bubblegum, subtle and understated. Very nice.

Das Bier weist schon zu Beginn eine interessante Zitronenmelissenton auf, der im Mittelteil bestätigt wird. Daneben ist der Hopfen erkennbar, etwas herb, süffig und sehr ausgewogen. Spritzig, hellmalzig. /9/8/10//9

Würzig-getreidig-süßer Antrunk, der durch die Hefe verstärkt wird. Danach weiter leicht hefig-süß, eine minimalistische Rauchnote tritt auf und verstärkt sich im Abgang wenig. Sehr süffig, die gesamte Intensität ist ausreichend. Wenig herb, in Teilen zu mild. Die 5,8% sind keinesfalls erkennbar. 12/10/10/9/10

Würzig-süßer Antrunk, in dem das Getreide deutlich hervorkommt. Ebenfalls stark malzig, wobei dies in die helle Richtung tendiert. Dabei auch deutlich alkoholisch, dies scheint die Hefe zu unterstützen und sorgt für zusätzliche Intensität. Aromatisch und süffig, besonders die Süße sit gut implementiert. Bottled (from bierzwerg.de). Amber colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, wood and some mild notes of sweet malts, and stinging sweetness. Flavour is grass, some sweet malts, mild alcohol as well as some mild grainyness. Flavour is quite ok, but arome is quite horribly sweetish.

Draught at Festival der Bierkulturen, Köln: Hazy, amber coloured; sweet dark-malty nose with aromas of X-mas spices; solid sweet flavour, full bodied; cinnamon and so on in the sweet malty finish. Too sweet, too spicy....

Draught @ Festival der Bierkulturen, Bürgerzentrum Ehrenfeld, Venloer Str. 429, Cologne, Germany.Clear medium to dark brown red color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, berry, vintage berry, overripped fruit, moderate roasted, light alchol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, berry, wood - tobacco ? oxidide notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100515]
