Keg at the Nags Head, Covent Garden, 16/07/18. Clear golden amber with a decent off white cap. Nose is rather thin comprising pale malts, vague citric noted, toasted bread. Taste doesn't really kick in either ... grassy notes, toasted grains, faint lemon rind, crackers. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so affair ... pretty thin and muted in flavour.

Cask at the Nags Head, Covent Garden, 16/07/18. Golden copper with a decent offwhite cap. Nose is tangy fruits, vinegar strokes, gone. Taste comprises vinegar, general twiggy nonsense, straw, bitter fruits ... not good. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, tangy fruit off notes in the close. Properly bollocksed cask ... first ive had in some time bur their own product ... # fail.

Cask Welsh Harp, Waltham Abbey on 22nd June 2018. Crystal clear amber with white film and scant lacing. Inviting biscuit malt aroma. Malty in-mouth with berry fruits and a touch of hazelnut. A fruity finish. Zingy mouthfeel and fair body. A quenching ale.

A half of cask at the Kings Mead. An interesting golden ale (I'm sorry, but IMHO this is not an ESB, but it could be argued that it is a Best Golden Ale if there is such a thing) with plenty of malt and hops and a rich mouthfeel. The bittering hops were in balance with the malt and I have to admit this is a cut above the normal terrible McMullen beer. A good beer and one that I would happily have again in one of their pubs.

Cask at The Britannia, Marlow. Crystal-clear light copper with a thin white head. Digestive biscuits and a light dry bitterness up front, but then some hops emerge - a little lemon, some fresh leafyness and even a touch of a resinous mouthfeel. Despite the pump clip saying it’s an American spring ale, though, it feels very English. It’s pleasant and drinkable and gets better the more you have: probably the best I’ve had from this sub-par brewery.

Keg at the White Hart in Hertford - Brand new beer from McMullens under their Rivertown brand. Interesting, but I would never call this a pale ale. It’s more like an English IPA and was quite good. It was a nice dark brown colour in the glass, , but served a bit too cold. As it warmed I got some good bitter hops and it had a thirst quenching mouthfeel. One that I would have again if I was in a McMullens pub over anything else that they sell.

Cask at the White Hart in Hertford - A better attempt from McMullen that was more akin to a light English IPA. Some nice bitter hops coming through and a clean mouthfeel. Still not great, but much better than so many other efforts from the brewery
