Description
Our story originates from the dreams of a German immigrant and his passion for beer. Otto Bemberg, who arrived in our country in 1852, founded the Cervecería Argentina in the city of Quilmes in 1888. After two years, on October 31, 1890, the first chopp was served and from there the iconic beer began to be sold under the Quilmes brand, in honor of the old indigenous name of the town, where this dream materialized. These would be just the first steps of a project that, over time, would become one of the main companies in Argentina. During the years to come, the company grew exponentially, in 1910 it reached 100% beer production.

In 2002 we sealed the strategic association with AmBev and in 2006 we finalized the transfer of our majority shareholding package. We are currently part of AB-InBev, the world's leading brewing company, based in Leuven, Belgium, with a portfolio of more than 200 brands.

0.33l bottle. This is a crystal clear golden one, a few tiny unfiltered particles floating about and it has a small heavy lacing just off-white lager head. It smells light sweet and definitely skunky. That's a shame. Was looking forward to trying my first Argentinian. Anyhow, to sum up the aroma: it's not very nice. It's average+ carbonated and it has a near watery mouthfeel. Sweet and corn-like in the taste. No clear off-flavors as the aroma could have suggested. It's pretty much just another dull lager. Nothing special or different from any of the other 10000 I have had over the last few days except from that hideous aroma. 08.08.2012

A dark brown stout with a thick dissipating brown head. In aroma, light nutty malt with faint chocolate and faint herbal notes. In mouth, sweet cloying caramel with faint quick chocolate, not well done. Bottle from a Coto in Rosario, 7.60 AR$ (or 1.60$ ).

A blonde lager with a thin white head. In aroma, crisp malt with light skunky notes, German hops, OK. In mouth, a crisp malt with some grassy German hops, sustained, decent for South American lager. Bottle bought 7.60AR$ (1.60$) at a Coto in Rosario, Sept 16 2012.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours golden, gentle bubbles, not much head. Nose of pale malt, sweetcorn, some honey and a hint of lemon. Taste of honey and sweetcorn again, some herby and metallic notes on the end. Palate is light to medium bodied, light textured, not as clean as it should be on the finish. Overall, a typical mass produced lager, single dimensional really - makes Tennents look complex!

Rather dull looking label, claims to be Argentina’s number 1 beer which I have no difficulty whatsoever believing Appearance-wise this is a complete train wreck, terribly unappealing palest imaginable golden I have ever seen in a beer, quite crystal indeed, small synthetic head that quickly disappears Smells mainly of sweet corn, some grain & light touch of floral but very corn sweet Taste is lots of sweet corn, very heavy on corn syrup, touch apple juice, sweet grains, lightly metallic & hint of hops in the back Light, the corn syrup feels a bit sticky & odd It could have been worse for a South American popular macro pale lager, went ok with the spicy food, too much corn & almost hard to identify with as a beer for me (33 cl. bottle @ Argentinean restaurant // in a Maes glass)

Another from the chronicles of Central American Lager fest this weekend. Thanks to Roswell the Dog for bringing this back and sharing. Pours a clear golden straw color with a smallish white head that dissipates quickly in the July sun. Smells malty sweet and lightly grainy with the faintest of floral hops to provide a hint of balance. The flavor is what I expected, a bit sweet hints of honey almost no hop flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet grainy mouthfeel. Feels like a light lager, taste like a light lager but really went down easy on a sunny 85 degree day. Not something I’d ever seek out, but glad I got to try it.
