Description

330ml bottle [Gusher - shoots out a hop umbel!]. Cloudy, dark yellow-ish, golden colour with average to huge, frothy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Fruity, pale malty, grassy and slightly floral, hoppy aroma, notes of apple, fresh hay, a touch of quince, viola, some floral honey. Taste is grassy and slightly floral hoppy, yeasty fruity, minimally sweet pale malty with a biscuity and bready touch, notes of fresh hay, hints of yellow stone fruit, apple, viola, a diluted touch of honey; sweet-ish, fruity finish with hints of apricot and peach, floral whiffs of viola. Watery texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine, soft but efficacious carbonation. Very natural, left to its own resources, impure, dirty in a positive meaning. Full of character, terroir - really idiosyncratic. Quite unique.

Blackberry fruit beer by Vagebond in Merksplas, thanks tderoeck for sharing. Apparently a limited one - because made with self-harvested blackberries if I am correctly informed... Frothy, fluffy, pale pinkish-white, regularly shaped head on a lightly hazed, fuchsia coloured beer with quite intense ruby red glow. Aroma of strong stewed blackberry and blackberry jam, raisin bread, rhubarb pie, white bread, dried orange peel, touch of clove. Fruity, juicy onset, blackberry sweet-and-sourness, more sweet than sour in this case but nonetheless feeling genuine and not artificial, yet still kept clean and streamlined; medium carbonation, smooth cereally and bready malt body, thinnish, soaked in blackberry juiciness of which the sour part seems to develop a bit more in the end, with a refreshing citric impression as a result. Hop bitterness remains of a very light leafy nature, playing only a supportive role. Typical Belgian fruit beer the 21st-century way, with less emphasis on sugary sweetness and artificial colouring and flavouring than was the case before - clearly a positive evolution, even if this type of beers will never be my cup of tea. This one turned out better than expected, however, with a blackberry character that remains as credible as it is streamlined and clean, not such an easy feat to achieve.
