Description
De bieren van ‘Brouwerij Vagebond‘ zijn sinds 2011 op de markt. Een Vagebond, synoniem voor een landloper of een zwerver, is al decennia verbonden met Merksplas en Wortel.

Tot in 1993 werden ze hier opgevangen, jaar waarin de wet op de landloperij werd afgeschaft en deze mensen, nagenoeg van de één op de andere dag, op straat stonden.
Als hobbybrouwers hebben we destijds bewust gekozen voor de naam “Brouwerij Vagebond”. Op onze etiketten staat dan ook te lezen:
“De Belgische Wet tegen de Landloperij werd in 1866 gestemd en in 1891 verfijnd.
Wie op straat kwam zonder pas of onvoldoende geld om een brood te kopen,
vloog als landloper naar de gevangenis van Merksplas of Wortel.
Deze wet werd in 1993 afgeschaft, omdat arm zijn geen misdaad is.”

33cl bottle. A minimal hazy golden beer with a huge good lasting white head. Aroma of fresh citrusy hops, hay, pale malt, dank. Taste of moderate hoppy citrusy hops, pale malt, citrus, dank. Probably one of the best Tripels i´ve ever had.

Pours dark, semi-clear copperbrown. No head. Smell is booze, bit bourbon. Taste is sharp, booze, phenolic, bit bourbon. A more qlcoholic, boozy version of the basebeer.

Pours rather clear, caramelly amberbrown, no real head. Smell is yeast-forward, esthers ( banana ) clear cloves. Sweet. Taste is sharp, bit bitter, cloves, bit dry, sweet, dark sugar. 75 cl bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is overripe fruity. Toasted malt. Sweet, plums and raisins. Dried fruit. Sweet and deep malty. Roasted and fruity finish.

Thanks for sharing! Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival 2017. Dark brown amber, little head. Nose is sweet oak, vanilla took it for Bourbon, sugar, little harsh alcohol pain, hand soap,… Harsh soap, boozy low sugar, hand soap, bourbon,… Soapy body,… Mmmhh better than the base beer but given the base beer still not great.

Original review text: 2012 Vintage (bottled on 22/12/2012). 75 cl. bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013. Dark brown with a tanned head. Nose is heavy on dried dark fruits, caramel, touch liquorish. Taste is bittersweet with bitter herbs, liquorish, sweet caramel, touch chocolate, brown sugar, faint mocha. M/M body. Not bad.

31/XII/16 - 33cl bottle from Onder 't Schuim Bierfestival @ Delft - BB: 8/IV/17 (2016-1523)

Little hazy dark orange to amber beer, creamy off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit oxidized, caramel, malty, sweet, bit sourish. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit sweet, malty start, caramel, some banana, bit yeasty, sugary touch. Aftertaste: little bitter, grains, malty, lots of caramel.
