Description

New ’edelbier’ hopped with Nelson Sauvin. Pours a beautifully warm, lightly orange ’old gold’ colour turning a deep, misty, rusty peach with deposit, clear with lively fizz, under a rather thin and opening but otherwise stable, off-white, regularly shaped head. Pleasant fruitiness in the nose, impressions of fresh orange peel, passion fruit, flowers, white grapes, gooseberries, sourdough, hay, raw grains, gin and something vaguely sweaty, but not disturbing; what does disturb me a bit, however, is a faint presence of H2S and some ’wood glue’-like solvents, growing stronger as the bottle is emptied. Crisp, subduedly fruity onset, lightly honeyishly sweet with a sourish fruit touch, citrus peel freshness, berries and quite a lot of red apple, with spritzy carbonation but just right for me; mouthfeel is smooth and oily. Bit grainy and very lightly caramelly malt sweetness in the middle, finishing malty but further adorned with floral and somewhat peppery hop bitterishness, gentle but sufficient to create balance and drying a bit; fairly ’clean’ in the yeast department. A warming glow of ’jenever’-like alcohol rounds things off. Not a spectacular beer by any means, but well balanced and technically acceptable, though they should work on the off-flavours in the aroma. Enjoyable enough, though.

Bottle, 8%. Citric, spicy aroma, hint of earth. Hazy golden colour. Big stable chalk white head. The flavour is nicely malty with a good spicy note, clove and alcohol. Late bitterness, not entirely pleasant, but the way it usually is with a tripel, I guess. Good soft carbonation.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan - thank you! Pours hazy light amber with some sediment and airy white head. Clear aroma of flowers, fruit and malt, with some hoppy notes. Sweetish flavour of malt and fruit, with bitter, hoppy notes as wella s some citric and dusty touches persisting into the otherwise sweetish aftertaste - must be from the vagabond’s boots. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle shared during the RBESG 2014 Sunday tasting at Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell. Pours cloudy gold with a frothy white head. Simple trip with some sugary white bread and lemon meringue. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation. Sugary finish, doughy and a little yeasty. Quite basic, though drinkable.
