''We were making beer in the kitchen of our flat in Liverpool,” says Jon Kyme (our lead brewer) “It got out of hand.” and so Stringers was born. In 2008 Jon (a Barrow lad) dragged his biochemist wife back to the Cumbrian town of Ulverston to set up their brewery.

2018: After 10 years of trading the time was now to step it up a gear. Local business woman Kirsty Ridge purchased the invested £50,000 in new equipment allowing us to increase brewing capacity and introduce new beers.

2020: After 12 years of Stringers we decided we needed a new name and look, and so we decided to rebrand. To celebrate our Cumbrian heritage we renamed to Lakeland Brewhouse.

At Lakeland Brewhouse, brewing beer is not just a job – it is a passion. Decades of experience are poured into every pint we create at our 100% renewably-powered brewhouse in the south Lakeland town of Ulverston.

330ml bottle from bottle shop in Keswick - Hazy brown body, thin off-white head. Nose is a bready yeasty malt, not too strong. Taste is a warming fruit malt loaf, little alcohol burn, tastes a lot stronger than the ABV. Nice one, Thoroughly enjoyable tipple.

330ml bottle from bottle shop in Keswick - A jet-black body, almost oil-like, with a dirty looking thick brown head which last some time. The nose is chocolate, liquorice, blackcurrants, coffee, very complex as new notes hit the nostrils. The taste is the same, a bit of vanilla, cherry and some spices come through as well. Oily in the mouth, a boozy warmth at the end. I like this a lot.

Cask conditioned at the Lime Kiln, Bristol 4/6/2015. Golden, with a slight, white, head. Easy drinking pale, ale with some sweetness, but not obviously honey character, a touch of fruit and decent, bitter finish. Good.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2014, Great British Beer Festival, London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX. [ As Stringers Plan B ].Clear medium yellow color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, light hoppy, fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, fruity, sweet malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20140813]

Cask-conditioned at the Lime Kiln, Bristol 24/5/2015. Deep amber in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Aroma of slightly spicy malts, a hint of green herb and berry fruits. Flavour was sweetish, with more red fruits, biscuity malts and a lengthy, bitter, finish. Enjoyable.

Bottle @Il Santo Bevitore (Rome). Deep brown with a big light beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, light mocha, hops, grass, seaweed, wow! Flavour is moderate sweet with a good bitter end, messy notes of chocolate and coffee, bitter and dry end with a touch of smoke and sea salt. Light carbonation. So easy to drink but rich and pleasant! A jewel!

Yellow with massive soapy white head. Has a fine but intense carbonation. Fairly dry and hoppy. Very refreshing.

Manchester Beer Festival 2015. Darker yellow coloured ale with a small head. Has slightly dry tasting hops with a mainly floral character.
