Description
"It all started in 1980… Hugh Sisson, a Maryland native, theater grad school major, and all-around good guy, joins his family’s restaurant & bar, “Sisson’s” located on Cross Street in South Baltimore.
Craft beer wasn’t even on the radar back then. But, Hugh quickly recognized that to run a business, you need to do something to be different.
Light bulb moment: “What if we turned Sisson’s into a brewpub and brewed our own beer?”
Solid plan, right? Problem: Brewpubs weren’t legal in Maryland at the time.
In 1987, Hugh worked with Maryland legislators to draft a bill to legalize brewpubs in Baltimore City – the bill passed on first attempt. Fast forward to 1989, “Sisson’s” becomes the first brewpub in the state of Maryland.
After the brewpub scene for a few years, Hugh felt the need for a bigger stage (theater-pun intended.) In 1994, he left “Sisson’s” for his next business venture… and the rest, friends, is nothing short of Maryland craft beer history"

Bottle. Pours cloudy orange w/ light head. Nice aroma of banana and butterscotch. Taste is that of a standard weizen. Good, but not notable.

The body on this Oktoberfest was too thin to propel it beyond just average amid all the dozens of Oktoberfest/Marzens on the market. Clear amber/golden pour with a short beige head. Strong nose of malty sweetness, particularly toffee and caramel and some fruitiness. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Moderate carbonation. Thin body and watery texture. Finish lingers with a sweetness.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Clear, dark brown with a tint of red and a creamy, beige head. Aroma of burned malt. Medium body with hard roasted - yet fairly sweet - malts. Almost candy-like with its underlying sweetness - and acidity. The bitterness is very subdued. but a pleasant one. 051007

From 12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a lacing brown head. Coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and a whiff of dried fruit. Sweet malty flavour with chocolate smoothness and a mild liqourice edge in the finish. Slight breadish end with an underlying fruityness. I love the label of this one :)

Pour is a red with a large pink head. Aroma is of faint raspberrys and nothing else. Shoulden’t a fruit beer punch you in the face with the fruit aroma? Not so much here. Flavor is artificial raspberry and again not much else. Pretty poor.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Pours a slightly hazy, deep golden with a small, rough, off-white head. Very flowery and aromatic - almost perfumy - nose. Medium body, rather soft mouthfeel, lightly fruity, some peach notes and a citrusy edge. The finish is fairly bitter. Quite interesting and well composed. 180907

12oz bottle poured gold with a faint haze. The bright white head lasted a minute or two. The aroma has that sweet malt and wheat odor. Behind that are hints of coriander, yeast, honey and citrus. The flavor is much like the aroma with sweet bland malts, wheat, hints of banana, acidic citrus, lemon, hints of pumpernickel, coriander and yeast. Seems to be an above average Hefe.
