Description
All Dikke Jan beers are brewed by ourselves at the DECA brewery in Vleteren (Woesten). This brewery has a long historical background. The unique thing about this very special artisanal brewery is that it is still brewed in the old maisch tub. She is no less than one hundred years old! Fermentation also still takes place in open copper and stainless steel vats. Top beers are brewed here in the old fashioned way.

2/II/19 - 37.5cl bottle @ Brugs Bierfestival, BB: n/a - (2019-149) Thanks to the Belgian ratebeer crew for sharing todays' beers!
Clear dark brown beer, creamy dense beige head, little stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: ripe banana, some vanilla, brown sugar, yeast, more overripe banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bah, that's not a very pleasant beer, tastes like dead yeast, unpleasant bitterness, some cooked vegetables, soft roast. Aftertaste: unpleasant, dry, yeasty, some banana, tannins maybe?

Pretty clear deep red to rusty light brown beer, nice pink creamy head, non adhesive. Aroma: cherries, but in a weird way, bit rotten, funky, sourish, lactose, quite some diacetyl. MF: no carbon, light body. Taste: pretty dry start, slightly sourish, bitter notes, quite some tannins, yoghurt notes, more unpleasant bitterness. Aftertaste: dry, tannins, cherry skins, bit sourish, bitter finish, diacetyl and yoghurt again.

The ordinary blonde in this series, bottle from Dranken De Moor. Regularly shaped, egg-white, moussy, membrane-lacing head over misty straw blonde – pale golden beer with vague greenish tinge. Aroma of ripe banana, sweet red apple, old coriander seed, white bread slices, bubblegum, some powder sugar, turnip juice. Sweetish banana ester in the onset but not over the top, some pear and pineapple, light bubblegummy effect, supple and lean mouthfeel with medium carbonation; ‘white bready’ malt body, light residual sugariness, dusty-spicy coriander seed accent but remaining subdued, floral camomile-like hoppiness adding a soft bitterishness while a mild bready yeast touch appears and malt and estery sweet aspects subtly linger. Very subtle even for a stereotypical Belgian blonde, adds absolutely nothing to the Belgian beer landscape but at least it is brewed completely correctly.

04/02/2018 - small glass shared with tderoeck, 77ships and rubin77. Brown, small lacing. Nose is grainy, bit cowfodder, caramel. Taste is a mess too. What a pity but hey, I've had all their beers now.
