Quadrupel by Wander Beyond, aged in Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels; at BCBF. Off-white, moussy medium sized, shred-lacing head, clear warm amberish copper robe – a bit on the light side for a quadrupel, perhaps. Aroma of fresh blackberries, caramel, medium dry sherry, cranberry sauce, hints of rum and blood orange, vanilla-breathing oak wood but in a ‘light’ kind of way. Very fruity onset, blackberries and cranberries with again that brief blood orange-like brightness and sourishness but generally sweet, with candi sugar and caramel effects dominating, a bit bready in the middle and softishly carbonated; later on, a grapey fruit-sourish edge kicks in (the sherry, I suppose), along with a ‘candied’ fruit sweetishness and oaky woodiness – the latter, however, remaining very soft. Some mild hops in the end. Generally lean, supple, even a bit thin for the intended style, certainly if compared with the great ‘historical’ trappist quads, but still a balanced and elegant, fun beer to drink.

Pours fairly clear dark amberred. Scent is aged cherry. Raspberry, but very candied-like. Taste is sharp, mildldy acidic. Raspberry jam, over the top jammy even. Basebeer is very lost.

Pours unclear amber, small white head. Scent is marzepan, caramel. Taste is sharp, to the bitter side. less marzepan now, more bitter. Raisins, dades, quite boozy. Old ale style-like. Medium fullbodied, medium low carbo.

Draught Small off-white rim over almost clear, pale copperish golden beer. Bitter almonds, superglue, barreled Spanish Tinto or sweet sherry. Sweet sherry returning, definitely. Sultanas, welled in a mild spirit. Medium bodied @ best; slick, light alcoholwarming. Something out of an Iberian cask.

Draught Rim over pitch-black beer. Dried fruit on alcohol, boerejongens , prunes, raisins on serious booze. Sweet, with an alcohol-harsh side. Again jumble of dried dark fruit. Full bodied, fiery alcoholhet, viscous & oily. Not very carbonated. Alcoholics' delight.

Can from Eltham Wines. Hazy orange pour with a white head. Aromas of pineapple, mango, sweet citrus, pine. Rich resinous taste, lots of sweet citrus, pineapple, mango, papaya in there too. Long sweet fruit linger. Quite easy drinking given the strength.
