Gravity cask at the Ale Wagon's 20th Birthday Beer Festival, Leicester. Mahogany, very translucent, with a combover of off-white head. Smokey aroma, firewood, a sharp metallic note and a more delicate floral character. Sweet taste with a strong smokey flavour, but there's a slight unwelcome vegetal character: nothing wrong with the condition but it's got a touch of something messy. Body is way, way too watery and flat as can be. Decent but far from world beating.

Nice use of fruity US hops alongside a biscuity malt note: I'm getting loads of citrus peel and lemon cookie. Taste is very interesting: bittersweet and hoppy with an inense astringency present in most Tower Beers. Not an English pale ale, but rather an unlikely cross between a Bueton Ale and an APA. The result is certainly different from the usual 'trad brewery trying new recipes'. A strange and moreish concoction.

Gravity cask at the Ale Wagon's 20th Birthday Beer Festival, Leicester. Dark gold, clear with an uneven white head. Sweetish smell, a little bit medicinal with some woody and earth notes. Taste is sweet with a tangy/spicy notes, and some flavourful asteingent hops in the finish. The overall effect is a bit weird, I like it well enough and it certainly isn't a bitter by numbers, but it's messy.

Handpull cask at the Ale Wagon's 20th Birthday Beer Festival, Leicester. Mid- to dark gold with a reddish hue and a tiny white ring of head. Aroma of raw grain with grassy hop. A good dollop of sulphur in the otherwise nicely balanced taste. Long bitter (but not overly so) finish with the sulphur continuing. Ok, I'm not keen on these sorts of beers.

Handpull cask at the Ale Wagon, Leicester. Farm cider orange, clear and flat. Not a lot of hop in the aroma, but there's a hay, stale bread malt and a sulphurous character. Taste is pretty good: malty up front with a bitter, almost savoury, hoppy tang mid-sip and more astringency in the finish. It may have American hops but this beer is as English as it gets.enough character to remain interesting.

Handpull cask from the Ale Wagon, Leicester. Dark gold, very ckear with a tiny bit of loose white head. Massive sulphur hit on the aroma, with some bready yeast and a hint of sweet spice. Bittersweet taste, quite medicinal with a light spicy character to the dry finish. Sourdough and lemongrass notes in the afteratste. Ok.

Half-pint, cask ale at Ale Wagon. Shared with Finn. Bright golden body, bubbles to the rim, spotty lacing. Mid-dry fruity aroma. Moderate taste profile of bread and some lemony hints. Short ending of mid-sweet fruits. Average stuff. (10.02.2019).
