Description

A team of Faroese entrepreneurs are collaborating on building the islands’ latest brewery, located in the country’s capital, Tórshavn.

The breweryis called OY, a shortened word for “oyggj(ar)”, which means “island(s)”.

OY’s production capacity stands at approximately 1.2 million litres. In Faroese terms, it will be one of the islands’ biggest breweries. Internationally, it qualifies as a microbrewery.

OY will look to establish itself in the Faroe Islands first and foremost. In time, the plan is to start exporting its products.

Initially, OY will primarily focus on brewing and selling mainstream beers like pilsner, strong beer, IPA, and cider. Once those are up and running, special beers will also be added to OY’s beer catalogue. OY will function as a brewpub, offering beer tasting and tours, and will include a small shop with OY merchandise.

Tap @MBCC 2025, Blue Session. Very dark brown, beige head. Roast, coffee and dark choc aroma. Bittersweet flavour, roasted with bitter and dry coffee and choc.

Sample, thanks Robin Svensson! Almost clear pale golden, mid sized head. Mild citrus aroma. Mid sweet with slender body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Husky bread, spicy hay and citrus, long bitter finish.

Неплохой саур, в меру кислый, в меру питкий, есть цитрусы, и мякоть даже. Можно пить без проблем.

On tap at MBCC 2025 (Yellow session), pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Nose has some saline notes, smoked notes, and spiciness. Flavour is much the same, with saline, smoke, and hay. Decent yeasty expression but not amazing.

On tap at MBCC 2025 (Yellow session), pours an opaque filthy peachy pink, no head. Aroma is murky, with lots of pomegranate, orange juice pulp, and lacto. Flavour is very sweet, with intense grapefruit juice, orange pith, and lacto. Sweet and ascorbic. Not terrible but not recognizable as beer.
