Poured from 473mL can (pkg 08 Jan 2026). Clear light amber with off white head. Bready toffee malt, feint resinous hops, fairly thin body. Underwhelming.

473mL can. Pours a mostly clear, dull orange-brown with a beige head. Caramel malts and some resin & pine on the nose. Flavour has a fairly sticky toffee malt profile with some notes of resin and old pine. A bit of bitterness offsetting the malts. Not bad, malts are decent, but the hops are pretty weak.

473mL can, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma has bready malt, toasted caramel, and subdued resinous hops. Flavour has a pretty nice earthy, resinous hop character, toasted malt, caramel, and light toffee on the finish. Could use more hops but the balance between the caramel malt and hops is decent enough. Solid.

473mL can, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Nose has a strange mix of subtle, tart cherries, toasted malt, and some very gentle earthy hops. Flavour is rather dull and obscured, with all the aforementioned notes—there’s subtle cherry, toasted malt (not really reaching into roast territory), and subdued hops. I mean, a cherry black IPA is not a great idea, so you better have the chops to pull this off; Abandoned Rail do not. Doesn’t have anywhere near the malt base, nor the hops to be remotely convincing for the style, or satisfying flavour-wise. Inoffensive but underwhelming.

473mL can. Pours dark brown with a beige head. The nose is pretty subdued with notes of roasted malt and dark cherries. Flavour has dark cherries, bitter pits, some rye-like roast. It's fine, the dark cherries work well, but it's not much of a black IPA.

16oz shared with Alex @ Alouette Campground on Day 4.
Aroma: candied citruses, bold, weird notes of the old (oxidized) beer.
Taste: along the same lines, kinda dirty, some bitterness.
Overall: meh.

473mL can, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Nose is a bit harsh, with citrus zest, earthy hops, not much hop tang, and some rough bready malt. Flavour is juicy and fruity—unusual for a NZ-hopped westie—with tropical fruits, gentle citrus hops, and a lightly sweet malt base. Then some hop fumes come out, almost in an allium-lime way. It’s okay.
