MAL trip: day 9/12 - purchased from the Fairland Bar in Kuching, Sarawak, in a 660ml. plastic bottle and drunk at the guesthouse. Aroma: rather sour, 70s era homebrew. Appearance: clear honey amber, negligible head. Palate: light-bodied and slick, softish carbonation; makes little impression on the palate. Taste: medium-sweet, biscuit faintly discernible, a hoppy bite makes it drinkable. Unbalanced, to me just a little bit too sweet. [FYI: at the time of writing ‘The Drunk Monkey’ bar next door sells this lager draught, but doesn’t carry any of 1602’s other styles.]

MAL trip: day 8/12 - The Fairland Bar in Kuching, Sarawak, poured from a 660ml. plastic bottle. Aroma: milk chocolate, a bit smoky. Appearance: opaque cola, no head to speak of. Palate: light-bodied and slick, rather soft carbonation; finish is malty. Taste: lightly bitter, malt loaf, milk chocolate, some butter. Good stuff, I would certainly drink another.

MAL trip: day 8/12 - The Fairland Bar in Kuching, Sarawak, poured from a 660ml. plastic bottle. Aroma: very fresh and floral. Appearance: clear mulligatawny soup, no discernible head. Palate: light-bodied and sticky on the tongue, soft carbonation; finish is malty and sits well in the mouth. Taste: lightly sweet, biscuit, some butter. A very commendable effort, wouldn’t seem out of place at an independent family-owned brewery in England.
