Description
An independent brewery founded in 1996 and employee owned since 2024, we like to think that we blend creativity and innovation with heritage and tradition, reflecting these values across our beers. Our house style could typically be described as pale and hoppy, but that’s not all we can do! As the beer world has evolved so have we, covering a wide range of styles and continually pushing the boundaries of what we can create.

Cask conditioned gravity, White Cliffs BF 08. Very very dark ruby, thin beige head. Rich toasty aroma, nice malts, choc, bitter espresso. But this is all about the lovely bitter choc in mouth. Rich dark bitter choc, with some hop on finish. Some dark fruits and strawberry jam.

Cask conditioned at Oxford Beer Festival 12-10-07 Dark, dark brown in color, wonderful soft and impressive flavour of chocolate, fruit and yet five minutes into this I got a big bang of previously unnoticed citrusy hops, the bitterness lingered around the roof of my mouth and this really was a little belter.

Cask at Smithfest, Smithfield pub, Derby, 08-09-07 Poured a warm pink colour with very good clarity, but very little head. Tasted honey sweet with a distinct lack of fruit and quite dusty. Not exactly unpleasant but not great either, it seems very confused as to what it’s trying to be.

Roasted, full flavours of coffee, chocolate and a generous dose of citrussy hops in a long, tasty finish. Medium to full body. Very nice, suitable name for a beer on the dark side.
