About
Odyssey is a small family run brewery established in the rural surrounds of a National Trust estate in Herefordshire in 2014. We brew in a building that is at least 400 years old but our beers are modern and forward looking.

Because we are small, independent and committed to staying that way, we focus primarily on only two styles of beer - hop forward (of any colour) and big, indulgent stouts, with the occasional Barley Wine thrown in for good measure. Our hoppy beers are unfined and hazy but we seek to retain some bitterness and drinkability - East Coast brews with a West Coast vibe.

All of our beer is produced for keg or can.

Cask Gravity at Pig’s Ear 2015. It pours hazy golden-amber with a bubbly white head. The nose is soft, sweet, juicy, sticky, oily, peach, nectarine, brioche and resin. The taste is bitter-sweet, resinous, spicy, leather, quite oily, plenty of stewed orange, nectarine, decent malty backbone and good lick of alcohol warmth through the finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and slightly chewy mouth-feel. All-round rather nice. A bit of a surprise after having a few boring low-boost-goldes.

Bottle from Saucy Pears Bottle Shop, Worcester, Saturday 5th December consumed at home Sunday 6th December 2015. Pitch black in colour with a beige head, looks corking. The coffee on the nose is more latte ’ish’ rather than full on roasty, but I think that was the aim. Smooth and a little creamy in the mouth, the coffee has a nice fresh roastiness to it. Wonderful smooth, tasty stout, it has considerable depth considering the modest strength. Loved this, switched off rating mode and just savoured, another great beer from Odyssey. A8 A5 T8 P4 Ov16 4.1

Bottle from Saucy Pears Bottle Shop, Worcester, Saturday 5th December consumed at home Sunday 6th December 2015. Pours deep amber, hazy with a sticky off white head. On the nose there is lots of pine resin but with some lovely sweet tropical fruits, some maltiness also. This is utterly stupendous, a full on hoppy assault but great bittersweet balance, dry, a touch furry, lovely bitterness, smooth restrained but ever present, gums and tongue get a nice steady workout. Big American style malty punch, citrus, pine resin, citrus and a pithiness builds, nice carbonation. For a county more known for great ciders and perries this is one heck of a beer and amongst my favourite beers of the year, it’s brilliant. Loz said she was convinced that this was a top American big hop monster. A8 A4 T9 P5 Ov14 4.4

Gravity dispense at Pigs Ear ’15, 01/12/15. Mahogany brown with a beige covering that dissipates to Edgework. Nose is sweet malt, light perfume, cocoa rub, toffee. Taste comprises chocolate chip biscuit, sweet malt, brown sugar. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying close. Ok but overly sweet.

Gravity at Pigs Ear ’15, 01/12/15. Black with an attractive tan head. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, floral notes, earthy hop. Taste comprises toffee fudge, sweet vibes, chocolate malt drink. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough porter, hides the ABV well but could equally argue that it doesn’t deliver the depth this ABV warrants and a touch overly sweet at times.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2015, day 1 - London. Pours clear gold with a frothy, off-white head. Rich hop aroma, lots of papaya, melon and mango. Medium sweet flavor, nicely resinous, with fresh and lightly raw hop character, more mango, some peach, orange, melon. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Resinous and lightly warming in the ending, with more fresh and juicy hops, citrus, some tropical aspects. Very, very good. Great stuff.

Cask, gravity, at The Beer in Hand, Hereford, Sunday 1st November 2015. Pours gold with a sticky white head, some tropical notes on the nose. Tasty with a lovely juicy fruitiness, hoppy and bitter end but nice tropical flavours a little pineapple perhaps? It’s good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5
