Because we are small, independent and committed to staying that way, we focus primarily on only two styles of beer - hop forward (of any colour) and big, indulgent stouts, with the occasional Barley Wine thrown in for good measure. Our hoppy beers are unfined and hazy but we seek to retain some bitterness and drinkability - East Coast brews with a West Coast vibe.
All of our beer is produced for keg or can.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. A good while ago I had an Odyssey beer (can’t remember which), that reminded me of Pliny. This is similar. It’s a tad sweeter and a bit milky, but it’s a banger. As they say.

Can. Beer Central. Cracked this and it pissed out the top. Big fizz on pouring led to a huge froth with a tiny bit of actual beer underneath. Calmed down fairly quick though. Nice aroma on this, with notes of squeezed citrus. Some pineapple and sweet grapefruit. Sweet grain background. Taste is similarly sweet, with just a pinch of oily bitterness. There’s a smooth mouthfeel in there somewhere but the high carbonation spoils things somewhat. Makes for a decent hop burp, mind you. Light lingering bitterness to finish. Would make a cracking cask beer, I’d bet.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Fully opaque, dark yellow. Thick and fairly dense white head is lasting and semi lacing. Nose has lemon balm. Chalky mineral. Fresh cut nectarine. Tangy yeast. Taste is pretty sweet and sugary, with light, tangy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Drinks full for the ABV. Bright carbonation. Moderate bitterness to finish. Decent.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Soft haze on a pale yellow gold. Fine white head sticks around. Nose has a savoury kind of rye thing upfront. Bit of blue cheese. Some lemon sherbet is lost among the supper items. Taste is dry and earthy bitter. Some oat sweetness. Clashes a bit really. Medium body is oily and slick. Fine carbonation. Moderate bitterness to finish. Nope.

On tap at Craft Inn, Worcester 18/9/2020. Near black in colour, with a creamy, beige, head. Plain chocolate, leafy hops, some coffee bean character, toasty malts and a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

440ml can sophiesbeerstore.co.uk. Unclear glowing golden yellow, with a clerical collar of white foam. Aroma is wondrously zesty and fruity. Taste is fresh and zesty, with nice fruity hop contributions.. Not so much tropical as of a mild grapefruit, suppressed pineapple persuasion. Crisp and excellently balanced with a swift bitter finish. Lovely stuff.
