LASTING HISTORY

It only seems natural that we were able to locate the Lasting Brass brewery in the Old Pin Shop building in Oakville, CT. The building was originally erected in 1729 by James Williams and used as a gristmill. From there the mill became the Oakville Pin Company. The pin business was very successful and later became a division of Scovill Manufacturing Company, the Waterbury-based brass company.

Lasting brass is honored to be located in such a beautiful old building whose rich history and character inspire our drive to experiment with our own form of brass.

MEET HEAD BREWER & OWNER ED SILVA

A lifelong native of the City of Waterbury, Ed has been brewing beer in his hometown for nearly 15 years. He began as a 10-gallon home brew production delivering high quality, authentic and hand-crafted brew to local enthusiasts. Ed quickly immersed himself in the craft beer community, participating in local competitions, beer tastings and other community events. His passion grew along with his supporters and within 10 years he began Lasting Brass Brewing Company. Along with six unique recipes, Ed continues to evolve his brewing techniques with experimental batches brewed every three-six months.

16oz can from Half Time. Near black pour, thin silky beige head. Aroma is all peanut butter and chocolate, sweet. Taste follows filling in any spaces with light bitter roasty malts. Creamy, smooth. Having never heard of this brewery before, it surpassed any expectations I had going in. Delectable, sumptuous.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a deep black with full two fingers of brown head that linger. Big focused peanut butter nose with some molasses and dark chocolate underneath. Viscous pour, thick on the palate. Peanut butter dominates the palate with warming alcohol, dark chocolate and light toasted caramel, brown sugar notes. Drying finish without being overly sweet. Really solid PB imperial stout.

Can @ Broadway Dive Bar, Manhattan. Pours hazy bright yellow with a very small frothy off-white head, citrus aroma, mildly bitter orange peel-pineapple taste, smooth thin body, long citrus finish. Smooth NEIPA.

Pours pale yellow with a thick white head. Aroma of lemon, wine must. Taste has soft malt notes, some nuanced grain on the malt bill. Palate is fruity, citrusy, lingering guava. Good.

12% draught, 9/16/22. Moderately-to-heavily hazy, bronze-mango. Small, white head, moderate retention. Juicy pineapple and clementine with a pinch of sour gummies. Heavily fruity yeast and various citrus with sparse malts and no alcohol. Mega-soft with complex pineapple, tangerine, hints of pine and dank spice. Heavily fruity, lightly bubble gummy yeast with no alcohol. Good sweet/dry balance but just a bit too pineapple-dominated for my liking. Even a bit of sour citrus in there. Clean and well-made, though.

Can pour from Worldwide Wine & Spirits, Southington. Appearance is opaque, dull lemon chiffon yellow with no sparkle, minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is strong citrus with mild vegetal. Taste is similar to aroma with moderate citrus, surprising amount of herb. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, overly carbonated colors the experience. Surprising herbal contribution.

16 oz. can in a trade with tfontana. Fresh can. Thanks Tom!! From the crack of the can i got lasting tropical hints. Flavor has peach, mild tropical notes, very subtle herbs. The brewer did well with this all mosaic DIPA. Mild juice with light bitterness. Good balance. Nice 1st impression of this brewery for me!

Can pour. Appearance is opaque dingy orange juice with light sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-plus width white foamy head with decent retention and fair leggy lacing. Aroma is strong sweet fruit and grains in the background. Taste is moderately strong sweet fruit along with some grapefruit bitterness and late mild biscuit. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with thick, smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste with some lingering dry bitterness. Overall, some nice qualities but the bitterness acts to hold back some of the sweet juice vs. serving as a pleasing, complementary counterpart. Will look forward to tasting more from this brewer.

Pours amber brown with a thin white head. Aroma of ferrous yeast and lactic notes. Taste has figs, sour stone fruit. Palate has continuation of the ferrous notes on the nose. Good.
