22 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/21/2013. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, coffee, smoke, chili pepper, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and smoked pepper notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, toast, roasted malt, light coffee, smoke, chili pepper, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Light amount of roasted bitterness and pepper spice on the finish with light heat; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, light coffee, smoke, chili pepper, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and smoked pepper flavors; with a great malt/pepper balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming other than pepper heat on the finish. Overall this is a very nice pepper porter. All around well balanced dark/roasted malt and smoked pepper flavors; and very smooth to drink with the moderate pepper presence. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours moderately hazy/cloudy deep orange amber color with a 1-2 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, peach, mango, pineapple, orange/lemon zest, floral, grass, caramel, toffee, bread, pine, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity of citrus/tropical hops and balanced malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, orange/lemon zest, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toffee, toast, and floral earthiness. Moderate amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange zest, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toast, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good complexity of citrus/tropical hop flavors; with a balanced malt backbone and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this was a good DIPA. Good complexity of citrus/tropical hops and balanced caramel/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. An enjoyable offering.

Rcvd in trade. Review is from notes on April 20, 2013. The appearance has a dark brown body with a one finger white foamy head leaving some slightly thick foamy lacing left in the wake. The smell has dark fruits up front and powerful coming through in a prune/raisin like way, slightly earthy. The taste has dark fruit, malty, rich earthy nuttiness and a slightly sweet aftertaste, dry earthy finish. On the palate, its about a medium, is adequately carbonated, sessionable as the ABV doesn’t seem to be felt. Overall, not as malty and nutty as other Brown’s I’ve had, but I like how this one stands out a bit differently in its style from other Brown’s, I’d have this again.

On tap at Right Brain. Pour is dark brown with little head but smokey aromas with a little chocolate. Flavor is chipotle heavy... lots of chipotle that covers up the porter to a large extent. I like this beer quite a bit, though.

Can. Just a little bit of haze to the deep amber body. Head is thin and beige, while aromas are dates, figs and caramel. Flavor is sugary and fruity amber. Lots of brown sugar, toffee, figs and dates. This beer is sticky and sweet, but not real interesting. Almost tastes like a cloying barleywine light.

On tap at Right Brain. Sour apple nose with a little oak and booze. Flavor is fairly tart with cherry and apple notes and a boozy finish. It’s a sticky and sour beer, to say the least.

Sample at Right Brain. Clear and light gold with lots of head and a saison-y funk to the nose and the flavor. Kind of a funky and watery saison with lots of fruity esters. Not bad, but not my thing.

On tap at Right Brain. Kind of murky mix of tropical fruit and honey on the nose. Color is a slightly hazy gold and flavor is a kind of boring mix of juicy fruit, papaya and honey. Not bad, but I liked the other IPAs on tap much better.
