Right Brain Brewery is nestled in the SoFo District of downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Our focus is on creating artisanally made, one-of-a-kind culinary inspired brews. If you taste something in our beers, like asparagus, cherry pies, or real pig, it's because we put it there using only whole natural ingredients; after all... extracts are for sissies.

Right Brain brews can be found throughout the state of Michigan in cans, bottles, kegs, and on draft. However we're not just beer lovers, we're art lovers too. We're advocates for anything creative, innovative, or odd. We Keep Beer Curious.

Sample at Right Brain. Body was orangish gold with a nice head. Lots of fruity esters in the nose. Pears and apples with a little banana/clove. Flavor is more of the same, but has a nice lightness while still holding a lot of sweet sugariness and fruit.

Sample at Right Brain. So I didn’t get this one at all. Calling it an IPA of any sort just didn’t make sense. The pour was the only thing reminiscent of the style. Kind of an orangish color with a decent head. Aromas were fruit basket and that’s all. In order of dominance, pears, apples and bananas were all there and identifiable. Flavor is more of the same, but I didn’t really pick up anything hoppy. Odd beer. Not bad, but odd...

Sample at Right Brain. Poured a dark and thick brown with a fizzy head (something odd with the carbonation at RB). Aromas are heavy with earth, peat, dark malt, maybe a little smoke and licorice. Darn good aromas... that’s for sure. Flavor is a little washed compared to the nose. The flavors are there, but come out stronger in the aromas than on the palate. It’s a little thin.

Draft at Right Brain. Pours dark brown with cola like carbonation and a fizzy head. Aromas are straight Thin Mints. Chocolate and mint. That’s it. Nothing more to see here. Actually, it smells great and makes me a little hungry. First sip is a little disappointing, though. It has the flavors promised in the nose, but they are a little washed out and watered down. The mint is stronger and the stout and chocolate take a back seat. It’s good and I was surprised to like this as much as I did, but I would have liked a thicker mouthfeel and a more robust stout to back up that mint.

Can. Pours a slightly dingy gold with little head and aromas of light malt and a little bit of herbal/resin hops. Flavor is simple pale ale with simple hops that are fairly bitingly bitter, but not very directional. Decent and uninspiring, but very drinkable.

(Original rating: 12/30/11) Sample at Right Brain. Pours a foamy and light gold with little aromas... maybe a hint of butterscotch and honey. Flavor is pretty similar. Boring and directionless, but definitely beer.

Dark brown body with a tan head. Aromas of dark malt, citrus and tropical fruit. Flavors are very nice. Deep toasty malt with dark chocolate as the dominant one with lots of grapefruit and herbal hops.
