Description
Visit the world’s first LEED certified microbrewery housed in a refurbished historic funeral home in the East Hills neighborhood. Live the Bon Vivant with neighbors, brewers, and monks alike enjoying rustic farmhouse inspired beers alongside European inspired cooking from our scratch-kitchen.

We are excited to share our passion for beer, food and sustainability with you. Much of the inspiration behind Vivant comes from the small breweries that dot the countryside in Southern Belgium and Northern France. Often, those breweries are true beer artisans who are also an integral part of their community. They experiment with unique yeasts and local ingredients, always with an artistic eye to their creations. Sourcing ingredients locally makes their beer pair exceptionally well with a meal of locally sourced produce, meats, and cheeses. Brewery Vivant promotes living the good life by brewing farmhouse inspired beer, serving a from-scratch menu, and building a sustainable community one beer at a time.

Interesting twist on pumpkin beer, but ultimately a pumpkin beer just the same. Mild farmhouse yeast notes are present, as is a grassy middle and hints of flowers on the back end, but the profile is mainly nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice, as the style dictat, I guess. Eh. It’s pumpkin beer.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/15/2019. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy medium orange/amber/light reddish color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big fairly tart/tangy peaches, raspberries, fruit skin/seeds/pits, plum, pear, apricot, strawberry, lemon, lime, orange, melon, red apple, red grape/wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, wheat, biscuit dough, light toast, light leathery/musty Brett funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of peaches, raspberries, fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate oak/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big fairly tart/tangy peaches, raspberries, fruit skin/seeds/pits, plum, pear, apricot, strawberry, lemon, lime, orange, melon, red apple, red grape/wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, wheat, biscuit dough, light toast, light leathery/musty Brett funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy peaches, raspberries, fruit skin/seeds/pits, plum, pear, apricot, strawberry, lemon, lime, orange, melon, red apple, red grape/wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, wheat, biscuit dough, light toast, light leathery/musty Brett funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of peaches, raspberries, fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate oak/earthy hop flavors; with a fantastic malt/bitter/spiciness and tart/tangy fruit balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness, tart/tangy fruit, and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and sticky/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited saison. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of peaches, raspberries, fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate oak/earthy hop flavors; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/drying finish. Great soft feel. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Fantastic balance of juicy fruits, Brett/Bacteria/Saison yeast complexity, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Solid oak and earthy hop presence. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and impressive style example as expected. Fantastic summer beer.

Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, coconut, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, and dark bready/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, peppercorn, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, coconut, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, dark bread/crust, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, leather, peppercorn, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and slightly slick/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming 12.1%, or lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic Belgian barrel aged imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coconut, bourbon barrels, and light fruity/spicy yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/drying finish; amazingly smooth/soft feel for the ABV. Perfectly balanced rich malts, coconut, and bourbon barrel presence/integration; with restrained fruity/spicy yeast presence. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Not overwhelming on any aspect. Not much more coconut presence than the base beer from overall barrel character. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example. Not as amazing as the base beer, but still very high quality for the style expectations.

On tap at Vivant. Pours clear amber with a white head. Citrus hop aroma with a yeasty tone. Flavor has yeast meeting citrus hops, some pine, but a bit muted. Fine, but doesn't quite work as much as it could.
