Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Bottle from Lekker Bier, dated 18-12-2013, large sample. Opens without a sssh, as it is filled way too far to the top. Pours a murky copper color, with just some lacing. Aroma is quite fruity, grapefruit, lots of raisin and burned caramel. Very sweet taste, just slight bitterness. Way too sticky. Couldnt finish the glass.

Tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Slight hazy reddish brown with white head. Looks great. Massive sweet malts and honey, stone fruits and sugared red fruit. Hint of bitter yeast in the finish. Full bodied. Decent enough barley wine like beer.

Tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Think black with creamy beige head. Lots of grains, some cappuccino, nuts, creamy. Touch of spices too. Sugary and sweet with fresh fruity finish. Sweetness is not overpowering at all here. Beautiful velvety creamy mouth. Very good stuff.

330 ml bottle. Unclear amber body with a huge, long lasting, creamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt with citric fruit, spices and yeast. Flavor is sweet malt, fruity, apricot and relatively bitter. Quite strong in body with a sweet malty aftertaste that dominates more than the hops. Kind of OK, but not too impressive IMO.
