Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Bottled @ train after de Molen tasting, small sample. Slight hazy brown color, medium frothy head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity and piney hops, together with some grainy rye and some roast, but the IPA aroma is the most dominant. Quite bitter in flavor, just a bit caramelly and roast from the malts. Nicely balanced towards IPA, but with a subtle but obviously present note from roast and rye. Lovely beer.

Bottle from De Molen, shared with Slothez, Superbowl session. Murky amber pour with a small lingering off white head. Some grassy hop presence in the beak alongside summer fruit and yeast notes. Flavour was nicely fragrant with some sweet malts riding along with some nicely balanced hoppage and citrus. Well concealed booze. Very tidy effort, nice one.

Very hazy reddish amber beer, big fluffy pale cream coloured head. Palate is airy and light. Mild fine carbonation. Light airy malt, soft. Sweet tangy hops - piney. Rich berries and marmalade. Little hop spice. Light lemony tang. Airy finish with a bitter pine linger. Unusual but tasty!

Bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub. Hazy orange color, huge white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is lightly malty, incredibly fruity, citrus, grapefruit, loads of hops. Wow, very refreshing and lovely hoppy, I love the fruit hops and grapefruit aroma. Taste is malts, loads of hops, pretty bitter, lightly grassy, very fruity, again citrus and grapefruit. This is one of the best IPA’s I’ve tasted in quite some time. Very impressive! Medium to full body, a bit too highly carbonated. A superb balance between fruit hops and bitter hops. Great stuff. -- Note: second time I tried it the beer was considerably less good. Bottle was however not kept in perfect circumstances so that could be the reason. Because I just can’t be sure I’m going to leave the score as my original rating was.
