Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Keg @ Friends of Ham, Leeds. Slightly hazed red with a thick creamy-bubbly head. Strong tasting with some nice fruits apparent. Has a hoppy sweetness, most notable in the nose that includes some floral notes.

Bottled, BB 11-02-2024 (so prob bottled 11-02-2014), large sample. Almost clear dark redbrown color, short frothy off-white head. Aroma of lots of grainy oat, whole-grain cookie, roasted malt, bit earthy hop, coffee, slight milk chocolate, hint of butterscotch. Slight sweetness in taste, quite some malty bitterness together with earthy hop bitterness. Slight creamy mouthfeel, bit milky. Quite dry in the finish. Quite decent stuff.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Murky dark amber-orange colour, thin off white head. Aroma of some citrus first, tea leaves, somewhat hoppy but not as much as hoped, caramel, malts. Flavour is sweet, malty, caramel, a bit floral, citrus, leaves, tea, decent bittersweet finish, fruity and sugary acidity. Medium-bodied. More a Barley Wine IMHO, could be a lot more hoppy.

7/IV/14 - 33cl bottle @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: 18/XII/13 (2014-353) Thanks to Bart for the bottle!

Cloudy deep amber to red rusty brown beer, big irregular unstable, light beige head, bit adhesive. Aroma: citrus, pineapple, piny and resinous hops, sweet caramel, some banana. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet and malty start, caramel, peach candy, spicy honey, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: piny hops, sweet and sugary, peaches, caramel, malty, little sourish, bitter, hint of grapefruit. Not bad, but a little too sweet for my liking.

Dryish and grassy beer, with some malty and yeasty sweetness. Some mild pepper as well. Quite nice, but has a little too much of a belgian blond.

Solid black IPA. Malty body of roasted malt, with some rye. Yet also a fresh hoppy note. Good one.
