Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.
We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 1 March 2020) Reddish amber colour with creamy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, orange peel and grain. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, apricots, raisins, a touch of port wine and a balanced spicy bitterness in a warming finish with some alcohol shining through. Almost full body, quite sweet. On the boozy side, but really tasty and fairly well balanced. Very nice.

Bottle at home. The colour is dark brown with a light beige head. Aroma of smoke, sausages, heather, nuts, bread crust and leather. Flavour of heather, bread, grass, brown sugar and smoke. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. Malty with a nice smoke touch. More rauchbier in the aroma, and the smoke melts nicely with the bock in the flavour.

Bottle. Clear deep golden body with a small, fading white head. Quite light aroma, mostly malty. Taste is sweet malt and hint of caramel. Medium body and same aftertaste. Nice idea, but rather boring beer.
