Description
Founded in 1900, Cervezas Ambar is an independent Spanish brewery that maintains the spirit of a constantly evolving family enterprise. With 18 beer varieties, it has more specialities than any other brand. It continues to produce beer at the same brewery where it began operations in the early part of the last century, located in the historic San José neighbourhood. There they maintain the craft processes of the 20th century, with their own malting facility and the only open vat fermentation room still in use anywhere in Spain.

Molassess, dark chocolate, slightly oxidized brew. Of course the most amazing thing is it was created in 1901 by their "new" brewmaster. I wonder how old this guy is?

Dark color, short brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, rye. Slight bitter taste, very malty, bit creamy, watery. Not that bad actually, for the #2 spanish beer.

OK, lets go to spain. I didn’t know spain had so many beers imported into pennsylvania. 12 oz brown bottle, oops I mean 11 oz (rip off!). Poured a hazy brown, light orange, yellow in my steeler stein (130000). Smells like it may have lots of alky in it, sort of strong ale-ish. It sure smells stronger than the rating on this site. The haze clears after a few minutes. The initial taste also seems to indicate there is more alky in there than what is stated. The flavor is a bit industrial or unrefined. Turns into a bitter bite after an average flavor start. Nice beginning impression that fades into an ungentle continuing plateau. Finish hangs for a while. OK beer, worth a try.

Pale golden color, straw and grassy nose. Mildly sweet mouth with grassy and corn notes. Not as bad as people make it out to be. Very drinkable.

(Sample #8 [bottled] at the first Biertest-Online Gathering, Düsseldorf, 29.12.06) Clear, pale golden colour with a foamy white head. Moderately sweet, slightly bready, cookie-like aroma with notes of citrus and a herbal touch. Sweetish, slightly sour flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Malty, slightly bready and moderately fruity taste, slim, slightly bitter finish with a whiff of herbal hops.

Säuerliche Geruchsnote. Etwas zitroniger Antrunk, danach eher süßlich. Trotz des geringen Alkoholgehalts schmeckt es alkoholisch, leider ist der Abgang von einem metallernen Aroma geprägt. Test vom 30.12.2006, Gebinde: Dose Noten: 8,9,9,6,8,8 - 8,00

(33 cl bottle, gift from a friend from Spain) Pitch black color, brown head. Thin sweet, raissin and a bit metal, scent. Some toffee mild sweet taste. Rather low bitterness. Some coffee aftertaste. A bit too thin body for my taste.

330ml bottle. Dark chocolate aroma. Dark brown - almost black - in colour with a brownish head and lots of bubbles, all disappearing after a short time. Roasted malt flavour with hints of black coffee. Watery (imported from Barcelona - thanks to Eva).

330ml bottle. Fresh malty aroma with citrus notes. Moderate to thin white foam over a bright golden body. Citric flavour with a short bitter aftertaste. Slightly metallic impression. I would rather label the beer a standard pale lager and not a pale ale (Thanks to Eva for bringing the bottle back from Barcelona.)
