Bottle at Dunderölsprovning 2012. Hazy light orange liquid with a pink hue and small light pink head. Aroma of red berries, rhubarb, lemons, hibiscus, light lacto, apple skin and tangerines. Taste is dy and medium sour with notes of red berries, lemons and tangerines. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very balanced and refreshing. Awesome.

Pours deep ruby brown into a tulip. Off-white head with medium retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Sweet bourbon and mild habanero aromas. Medium-bodied with sweet caramel and oak upfront turning to bready in the middle before the lasting throat-soothing hot pepper finish.

Pours a solid dark brown with very faint garnet when held to light and a smallish tan head that dissipates slowly. The grapes have filled my nostrils since I popped the cork on this guy. There is quite a vinous aroma along with lots of brown sugar and molasses with a hint of alcohol. There are dark fruity malt aromas, but that’s kind of blurred from the abundant grape onslaught. The flavor is a bit vinous with some more dark fruits coming through as well as lots of molasses and brown sugars. Sweet and fruity with a hint of alcohol seems about right for a quad. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet vinous mouthfeel. I liked this one, I thought it was quite interesting and odd at the same time. This could use a hint more bubbles for the style. Maybe I’m just looking for a quad to be a certain way, but I think the addition of the grapes muddies the dark fruit like raisins and plums and prunes that I usually expect in a quad. The brown sugar works to amplify the dark and burnt sugar flavors from the malt. Kudos for the experimenting, I could drink this again.

Pours a slightly murky deep reddish brown color with a huge off white head that persists forever leaving moderate lace on the way down. Smells of spicy rye and peppery yeast phenols with a sweet lightly bready and caramel malt base with a hint of dark fruit. I can’t find any peppers in the nose, they must be subtle. The flavor is sweet and malty up front with spice and rye providing balance. I found the pepper and it comes in lightly in the middle and lingers long into the finish. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet spicy mouthfeel. Nice brew, I could have used a bit more pepper but I enjoyed it just the same.

Night of the Funk 2012. This one was a hoppier version, with a decent grass aroma and moderate funk throughout.

Pours hazy gold into a bowl. Head quickly dissipates to nothing. Sweet honey and ginger aromas. Sharp with tart summer fruit and sweet honey upfront turning to hay and ginger in the lasting lactic finish.
