Description
We are two brothers, in love with the world of beer for several years. It was by brewing at home that we decided in 2009 to make it our profession.
La Barbaude is a family-owned craft brewery. We develop our beer recipes and then manufacture them in our premises with respect for brewing traditions. In the heart of the city of Nîmes (500 m from the train station and the arena), the brewery is at the crossroads of different local cultures: Languedoc, Cévennes, Camargue, Rhône Valley ... Regularly, we will present new beer recipes inspired by products of these terroirs.

Bottle from Malt Attacks. "Denim pale ale" with a crocodile depicted on the label. Fairly thick, eggshell white, finely lacing, dense and stable head, colour almost clear and pure ’old gold’ with low fizz; strains of an oil-like substance can be observed just below the head. Aroma of kiwi, lemon soap, children’s aspirin, papaja, exotic flowers, starfruit, bubblegum, lavender, freshly cut grass, dried ginger. Crisp onset, sour-sweetish fruitiness of starfruit, lime, gooseberry and a hint of banana, strongly (even over-)carbonated, minerally, vague salty accent, smooth and supple pale malt sweetishness in the middle with a lightly bready quality to it, bit grainy as well, ending in a long, spicy, citrus peel-like hop bitterness, leaving a bittering coating on the mouth and throat and drying the finish, while some of the ethereal spices return retronasally, along with (restrainedly) citrusy hop aromas. This is a bit weird: it has enough hop effects to deserve IPA rather than APA status (neglecting brewer’s intent) but I am more puzzled by its ethereal and soapy spicy perfume; it is hard to believe this beer gets this unusual aroma only from C-hops, I strongly suspect some spice has been added here, and not even in a very subtle way. If this is the case, I think they had better left it out in order for the hops to shine in their own right, but I did not find this beer too unpleasant, in all. Moreover, it is interesting to see that France is (finally) succumbing to the craft beer revolution as well - they are still pioneering at this moment (not considering the bière de garde tradition) so I am curious to see what else our southern neighbours will come up with in the near future.

330 ml. bottle. Purchased @ Malt Attacks. BBF 07/2016. Dark brown, touch dark reddish fruit, mocha head, quite a solid head. Nose is sour cacao, mocha, powdery with sour coffee, light red fruits. Taste is artificial sweet chocolate bar, touch sour, light sour coffee, cheap chocolate syrup, odd red fruit, touch red fruit gummy bears, malt, cheap artificial chocolate & sweetish red fruity candy, a light sour touch, faint lemon, sour coffee but mild sour coffee, toffee. Powdery chocolate & cacao powder body. Weird but interesting. Fun but with a bit too many odd accents to really impress.

330 ml. bottle. Purchased @ Malt Attacks. BBF 06/2016. GUSHER. Very hazy orange, solid white head. Nose is odd, USA hops, passionfruit mixed with a big washing powder smell plus aspirin & other medicine. Something off maybe? Taste is odd powdery, medicinal pills, old aspirin, old powdery yeast, stale bread, somewhat chemical,… Powdery, dough, chemical body. It feels like the beer itself was good but something went wrong along the way. Too bad because you can feel that the base was good but the odd element is just too big for me to fully love it.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, malt, and caramel, leading to an alcoholic finish.
