Description
Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s booming craft beer industry. With a portfolio that is equal parts established and inventive, Highland is known for consistently excellent beer. Proudly regional, Highland is distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. Highland is the largest independent family-owned brewery born in the Southeast, with the third largest solar array in an American craft brewery. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, tours, and live music. In addition, the event center and rooftop can be reserved for private events. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and has 50 full-time employees.

A hazy orange beer with a thick beige head. The aroma is lightly hoppy combined with light notes of oranges. The flavor is very grassy and with a dry bitter end, but I find the body a bit thin.

Bottle thanks to Suttree. Hazy straw-colored body, medium dense off-white head. Sharp piney, citrusy hops aroma. Bready malt body with modest grassy, citrusy hops. Quaffable but the problem is there isn’t much to stimulate the palate here. Just a ho-hum beer, the kind of recipe that you follow if Trent Dilfer is your brewer.

Light copper body below short white head that quickly disappears. Nose is full of malts, grass, caramel, nuts. Strong malt signature in the taste as well. Light on the hops. Thin body with watery texture with moderate carbonation. Clean finish. Average.

Bottle Pours a deep redish brown with a small off white head and spotty lacing. Woody, earthy fairly sweet aroma. Flavor was similar woody carmel wioth some grassy bitterness. Very low on the hops, and a decent full palate. A nice example of a style that I like. Thanks Jordan

Dark brown. Nice nose - chocolate, coffee, lots of happy malts. Roasty with dark fruits on the palate. Sweet finish, just enough appetizing dryness. Nice stout.

Dark brown body with short, but frothy tan head. Plesant aroma of roasted malts, coffee and sweet chocolate. Flavor is full of roast and coffee with a sweet, toffee-like backbone. Notes of chocolate and licorice. Nice, bitter, clean and dry finish. Smooth texture, medium body. Well put together, enjoyable.
