2023-08-07, can from The Gull, North Vancouver, 7-4-7-4-15=37
Blond colour, pale, just some chill haze. Delicate but nice grassy aroma. Good malt base, it's bready, and crackery; the mouthfeel is dry, but not weak; bold bitterness, with pleasant grassy and spicy hop character.
Yes, this is solid.

Hazy blond colour. Unfortunately this got slightly frozen in the cooler; the aroma is mildly malty, the malt is definitively evident in the flavour, and the hops have grassy notes; balanced bitterness. It's less bitter than Small Things, but it has a better hop character as of recent experience with Small Things. Good.

Poured from the tap. Fairly hazy yellow with small white head. Lots of lemongrass on the nose. Lemongrass and wheat with a relatively feint ginger note. Above average.

Pale dull yellow sort of colour, no head. The aroma has a lot of ginger, some esters. On the palate still gingery but not aggressively so. The malts are too dull and heavy, and overall it's too yeasty to stand with the class examples of the style. I wouldn't say it's a miss, but it's not a hit either.

Piney and cat piss. OK and flavourful, just not my flavour.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Hazy to cloudy blond colour. Aroma of white grapes, light citrus. Strangely undercarbonated, which has a negative impact on the mouthfeel; boring malt base, with some of the usual starchy grains; the hop is muted, there's some sweet orange, and a touch of acidity. It tastes as if it were old (but it shouldn't); sub-par, for Small Gods.

16oz shared witn Alex's on Clear Creek campground in Cultus Lake Park. Appearance: hazy pale golden with a white head. Aroma: tropical fruits with some candied citruses. Taste: along the same lines, good body. Overall: ok.

So Letters from Thailand, which is a Thai novel, is a beer featuring fruit from India and Mexico. I associate neither mango nor dragonfruit with Thailand, so I'm confused here, because normally Small Gods names beers after novels from countries associated with the flavours of that country. It's hazy and pale amber. Aroma is mostly underripe mango. On the palate, more malty than anything else. Light acidity. Touch of mango, but not compelling or bright. Needs more. Must be some sort of bullshit Thai mango, rather than Alphonso. And as much as I'd love for someone to bring a blast of dragonfruit to a mango beer because I think that could work, at least in theory, there's not enough dragonfruit either. This is a concept that's go big or go home, and they didn't go big. If there's a second batch, may it go big because I think the base, with that gentle biscuit character, is close enough that it would work.

Luminescent pale, thin head. Lychee and stone fruit hop. Pale malt base, suits the hop character well. Moderate bitterness but it seems balanced, I guess because there's this splash of orangey hop expression.

Can. Hazy and pale. Medium head. Light fruit, some bitter citrus. Off-dry, lean malt character, but lots of bitterness, and bright fruity character.

Poured from the tap. Hazy gold with small white head. Juicy tropical hops, touch of stone fruit. Quite nice.
