Cloudy, tan. Aroma has a lot. The mango and passion fruit seem to come out the most, clean and fresh. Palate is malty, lots of pale malt, the fruits are subdued, it’s a touch yeasty. Still light and refreshing, if you’re drinking this after hiking up the Chief, as you’re supposed to be.

Babyfood banana aroma. Crystal clear amber, thick lasting head. Decidedly less fruity on the palate, with wheat bread taking its place. Alcohol evident Grassy hops are surprisingly assertive. Malty and boozy, hoppy for the style, but kind of neat. Paired well with lemon frosted sugar cookies.

Lemony yellow with a thin head. Light hops and lemongrass on the palate. Lots of weedy hops. Fresh pale malt, lemongrass, fruitiness, clean with a lingering hop bitterness in the finish.

After the rate, an upgrade. This has really been the beer of the summer for me, and that means something because I seldom have a beer that I blow off all others for, but this is it.

Hazy orangey colour. Lots of pumpkin in the aroma and a little bit of nutmeg...pretty appetizing. Sweet, lots of pumpkin, with a hint of cinnamon, a fairly strong, sweet, malt character and some gingerbready character. Almost a bit chocolatey character, Good balance.

Draft at the brewpub. 2012 vintage. Golden - brown. A nice oaky sweet caramel malt aroma. Sweet, touch of vanilla, balanced by lots of alcohol and tannins, it’s effective and deftly avoids the chewiness trap. A barley wine for barley wine lovers.

Original rate: Dark brown. Big liquorice aroma, anise...dame on the palate...it’s a strong, slightly oily impy with lots of rich malts and a huge anisey blast, bit of booze. Not all that refined but I don’t think that’s the point. 2014 vintage, consumed 2020. Pours black, with a fairly thick head. This has held its condition well. It's inky and thick, seems like it's lost some carbonation. But that makes it better. The big anise character has blended into rich chocolate, sticky toffee pudding and all kinds of beautiful dark sugars. It's a lot more refined now than any fresh version I can recall. Over the course of these years I started to really wonder what I was thinking aging this, but I'm glad I did. 4 8 9 4 17 = 4.2

Hazy blonde..aroma is fresh fuggles, goldings...maybe American versions thereof but certainly more English than I was expecting for a "west coast" IPA, given they have another IPA on the menu. Lots of bitterness..grassy...the wrong hops for the job but there’s a lot of character and it’s well-made even if the concept isn’t ideal.
