Can @ Malt & Mold sampling. Clear dark brown with small frothy beige head, spicy caramel aroma, low carbonation, bitter caramel taste with coffee, smooth body, long bitter finish. Good but the coffee flavor sticks out in an altbier.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, clove, light banana, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, clove, light banana, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, clove, light banana, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, fairly creamy/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a very nice witbier. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful for the ABV; and not too thin, watery, or dry. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on classic tasting style example.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours fairly crystal clear deep ruby/light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, wood, and pepper; with light roast, toffee, raisin, plum, fig, apple, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roast malts, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, wood, and pepper; with light roast, toffee, raisin, plum, fig, apple, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, wood, pepper, light roast/toffee/fruit, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roast malts, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, lightly slick/silky, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly warming alcohol for 10.3%. Overall this is an awesome imperial altbier. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roast malts, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. Feels like a cross between English barelywine and doppelbock on flavors. Very rich and complex on malts with balancing earthy hops; nicely clean and not overly fruity/yeasty. A very enjoyable offering.

Very clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Minimal dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, fairly crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.2%. Overall this is a very nice Czech pilsener style. All around nice robustness and balance of citrus/earthy hops and pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. The Mandarina Bavaria hops add some nice unique flavors; but this still feels spot on for the style all around. A very enjoyable offering.

Shared bomber, poured to dimpled mug. Amber-brown with medium head. Nice, malty altbier palate that borders on a doppledock. Deceptive smoothness that can let the high ABV sneak up on you.

On tap at Ford Field. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has grain and biscuit notes with a crisp grass backing. Flavor is mainly sweet with grain and biscuit with a bit of grass coming out in the finish.

Crisp peach coloured body with a copper glow and a thin, half centimetre tall pure white head - looks fairly nice, for the style especially. Aroma of lemons, malt, yeast, grain, coriander seed, curacao and sugars - very nice and refreshing, for sure. Light-bodied; Strong lemon and fake sugar flavours at first with some mild malts and a hint of curacao and full orange flavours with the malt noticeable at the end and not in a great way. Aftertaste shows a light, airy, refreshing beer, but the saccharin and fake sugar flavour is noticeable - but the lemon comes through decently. Overall, a decent radler, but that’s about it - what you’d expect for a summer beer, but not anything great or really worth trying. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 02-September-2013.

Light golden coloured body with a thin white head and tons of bubbles from the bottom. Aroma of fresh lemons, malt, crisp hops and a touch of metal. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and malty flavours with some distinct lemon and herbal kick to the end. Aftertaste shows a smooth finish with the malt and crisp hops giving way to a bit of sweetness at the end. Overall, a good clean and crisp beer that works well in the summer, celebrating Michigan! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$1.79 sampled in Woodhaven, Michigan on 03-August-2013.

Bottle. Corn syrup and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with giant off-white head. Slightly sweet corn syrup, hay, and mildly bitter herbal hops flavor. Not great.
