2022 vintage, 750mL bottle pour at the Dirty Truth, 11/2/24. Clear, blonde-brass-golden. Nose is lots of funky brett and rustic apple tannin mixed with a varied, yet tastefully-expressed barrel character that is quite varied. Some herbal notes, bit of chalk, but certainly no big screaming grape character nor any crazy liquor notes. Just a round, fruity, spicy character that underscores the big acidity and funk from the apple juice and yeast. In the mouth it's quite dry, I wouldn't say bone dry, with a reasonably tannic structure providing mild barrel character, mostly spicy and peppery, with a hint of soft liquor. Rich but very well-attenuated apple with mild malo-lactic notes and light, playfully fruity Brett. Gets softer and more interesting with warming/breathing, of course. Very promising, interesting, well-executed, not flashy stuff with grace and elegance.
