Description
A pioneer of the Brisbane craft beer scene, Green Beacon was founded in 2013 with the vision of creating a world class beer culture for the people of Brisbane.
It started with two mates and a couple of beers on the sandunes of Moreton Island, Queensland. Looking back over the bay towards Brisbane, a Green Beacon was spotted, an idea then sprouted, and Brisbane’s first craft brewery was born. The doors to Green Beacon’s Teneriffe brewery were opened on the Australia Day weekend of 2013.

Can. Deep gold with an inch of white head. 3+ Aroma of kumquats, pine, some mango skin, light bread and its crust. Medium bodied, resinous. Perhaps slightly less punchy hops than suggested by the aroma. Fairly sweet with some caramel as well as light bread, oozy citrus and pine. Quite bitter at the end. Very good but may well fade fast.

From a 375ml can on 24/7/2018. Pours a deep dark amber/brown with a medium head. The aroma features chocolate and roasted malt, with some dank hops. In the mouth, there's a decent amount of chocolate and caramel sweetness which is met nicely by some biggish hops with some strong roasty notes and a decent dash of spice. The texture is a touch creamy and the carbonation moderate. Bold but well balanced. An excellent drop.

375ml can into schooner. Nose is super-umami, smells like roast pork! Eventually dissipates to a salty fruit thing. Cloudy amber beer with a thin white head. Excellent lacing. Many tiny bubbles ascend. Tangy, fruity, acidic, lactic. Lots of stuff going on here. After all the adult tastes have finished Passiona makes an appearance. Nice beer, complex but also fun.

From a 375ml can on 1/4/2018. Pours a cloudy golden with barely any head. The nose is very fruity, with lots of melon. Flavour wise, it's very fruit forward - citrus, stone and tropical all feature, but it's the hops that define it - very piney, spicy and lingering. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. A really well balanced and flavoursome IPA. Terrific.
