[9/10] Very pale gold with a white head. Grainy aroma with earthy and grassy hops. Very mild hay taste with slightly more prominent bitterness. Not bad, but - in the bottle at least - undistinguished. [2.6] [8/16] White head fades fast on a pale gold beer. Still grainy aroma is now herbal and floral just a little lemon. Lean (hay, no bread or toast), clean and firmly bitter at the end. Said to be revamped and now hopped only with Perle. Pretty good, convincingly Nth German. So why did they keep calling it Original Pilsener when it’s clearly rather different?

Bottle. Very dark red-tinged brown with a creamy beige head. Gentle chocolate and toast aroma with some coffee and grass. Taste is mild and gentle with toast, coffee and chocolate. Dry finish with very gentle bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. No real roasted bitter flavours, so I’d call it a sweet stout. Nicely balanced and pleasant enough but not terribly interesting.

Bottle. Clear brown with small head. Nice aroma with a mix of malts and hops. Medium body and carbonation. The flavour has a floral hop and tangy start with a rich and hoppy fairly bitter finish. Overall it’s a very nice beer, although it’s an unusual brown ale with plenty of hops.

From a 330ml bottle on 3/8/2010. Has a very nice hoppy, floral, fruity (lychee) aroma. Flavour wise, it’s a little more subdued than the nose would suggest, and is not typical of an amber ale. There is a dash of malt and fruitness, accompanied by a medium hop finish. Still, this is quite flavoursome for a beer that’s only 3.8%.

Pours gold with a large diminishing head.Nose shows lots of grassy Euro hops with some biscuity, bready malt underneath. Later on the grassy notes fade, revealing floral hops and some sweet light malt.Flavours are more focussed towards the malt with a prominent bready character.Body is light, fitting the style, but the carbonation is pretty damn high.

Pours copper/ruby with a large off-white head, quickly fading to a thin layer.Nose shows juicy hops with pineapple, orange and floral characters along with a fair bit of honey and crystal malt.Very similar flavours, at least as far as the hops go. The malt is no where near as obvious, but still shows some caramel and nutty hints. Finishes somewhat weakly.Body is lacking but carbonation is spot on.

Tap. Served insanely cold, left to warm to around 10C. Clear mid-brown with a light beige head. Aroma of caramel, grass and pears. Sweet and rather simple caramel backed with a grassy/ earthy bitterness that lingered. [3.1] ------- Bottle, 11C. Liked the hop aroma a bit better this time - there’s a bit of resin as well as grass. The malt side too shows a bit more complexity with some tropical fruit as well as big caramel. Doesn’t really go, though.

Bottle from Peckhams. Clear whte wine coloured. Aroma is sour apple and a bit musty. Flavour is slight apple, highly carbonated. Crisp and very dry finish.

330mL bottle, pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is a nice balance of light hops and malts. Flavour is very balanced as well, with a lingering hop bitterness. Solid pale ale.
