Pours dark amber with a quickly fading off-white head.Nose shows lots of malt with caramel, toffee and some soft citrus hops underneath.Similarly malty flavours but with a bit of orange/tangerine in there too. Pretty tasty stuff.Body feels a little light on.Not very hoppy but nice nonetheless.

From a 330ml bottle on 14/01/2011. Has a with distinct malty aroma, with some toast and toffee. Flavour wise, it’s quite similar to the aroma, with some citrus fruit notes. The carbonation is just right, and it has a nice dose of hops. This is very sessionable, and the best I’ve tried to date from Gage Roads. A good solid APA, which kicks Fat Yak’s arse, and is not too far behind Alpha and Wicked Elf pale ales.

Bottle. Clear amber with an inch of white head. Aroma of caramel, hay, grass, mild spice. Taste has barely sweet somewhat bready malt, slightly spicy bitterness. Some pine in at the finish too. Comfortably avoids being watery. Not special, but perfectly acceptable.

Bottle. Darkish amber with a medium light beige head. Aroma of toffee, peaches, grapefruit, a suggestion of pine. Sweet and a bit watery. Lots of rather plain toffee in the taste, decent bitterness with little in the way of the aromatics suggested in the nose. I like a substantial IPA, but this overdoes it and the malt is bland. Mediocre.

From a 330ml bottle on 29/10/2010. Has a modest piney hop aroma. Taste wise, there’s good dose of sweet caramel and toasty malt, and little bit of fruit. The finish is reasonably hoppy, though still quite subtle by IPA standards. This has slightly more character than the standard Gage Roads IPA. A decent drop, albeit that it’s unlikley to rock your world.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/6/2010. I think this one is a little under-rated on here. While it may not be world class, it’s still an above average beer. It has a nice, distinct caramel and citrus fruit aroma. Taste wise, it’s malty and fruity, with a hint of nuts. A reasonable amount of hop action is evident in the long finish, though it’s pretty subdued for an IPA.

2008 bottle. Gold, large off-white head. High bead. Yeasty and tart aroma with orange and grapefruit zest, green apple peel, cloves, kaffir lime leaves, coriander seeds and cardamom pods. Tastes sweeter and considerably less exotic than it smells, but there’s still the typical sour/ spicy touch there. Showing no signs of deterioration. Dry, mildly astringent finish. Lacks a little funky depth, but pretty good.

Tap. Clear golden yellow with white head that doesn’t last. No significant aroma.Fairly lively carbonation and light body. Flavour is on the slightly malty side of largely bland lager with an unpleasant metallic bitterness. Disappointing.
