Rochdale Easter Ale Trail 2026, Beer#1. First stop on the town's bi-annual pub crawl festival. A smoothish dark amber coloured red ale to begin with, there's a bit of strength about it, and certainly has a full body, however its red ale style berry-fruit bitterness is not compromised.

I've shunned the weekly quiz for this trio outdoors. An easy, clean tasting lager, but not much to say about it beyond this. It is dry as it says on the tin.

Keg at Pig and Whistle, Gleadless - clear golden body, short lived white head, good effervescence. Juicy lives up to its name, peaches, some citrus, tropical fruit, nectarine and other pings of fruitiness. Really fresh.

440ml can from Gnome and Away, Chester. Gluten Free. Hazy pale golden colour, white foam head leaving some lacing and aroma of lemon citric, flowery. Taste is sweetish, grain, biscuit hint, lemony, citrus, with some light bitterness. Medium bodied, light carbonation, drying lemony citric bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Clear and golden with a frothy white head and a citrus hop aroma with a touch of pine. Zesty, fresh and fizzy, hop bite, grapefruit bitterness with some piney notes, a touch of lime marmalade and a dry bitter finish.

Seems like a 'Never The Twain' moment trying to marry tea to roasted malts, but the brewery have found a way here. However, the light roasted Influence evident here would probably come across better without the said previous infusion. Nevertheless, it's not a dominant influence, and the resulting fusion is pretty good.

440ml can bought at Tønne, Leicester. Mid-golden and a little hazy with a massive white head. Light citrus in the aroma, a little sweaty, a little grassy. Sweet taste, much improved from the lacklustre aroma, with light tropical and citrus fruits and a drying finish. Medium body with heavy carbonation. Not great at first but certainly redeems itself.
