Description
Housed beneath The Rat and Ratchet and since the very first brew of Lab Rat in 2011, head brewer, Paul Spencer and brewer Robin Moss, have created rodent themed beers to critical acclaim. Our beers are distinctive, extreme, generally intensely hopped and anything but average, experimenting with a range of different beer styles, strengths and ingredients. Rat beer is now infecting all four corners of the UK faster than the Black Death, turning a local infestation into a national plague. White Rat in particular has emerged as the flagship beer and now sits within the Ossett core range.

Cask at the Solihull Camra beer festival. Clear light straw coloured pour. Big bubbly frothy head with a hint of malt in the aroma. There’s malt in the flavour too, but this beer is all about the hops. There’s a lovely combination of hops that delivers a really nice dry hopped bitterness that makes this beer so refreshing. There’s a nice biterness lingering on the palate too. A superb session ale for a brewpub.

A potent roast nut aroma, similarly strong in its flavours but a balance taste. Have seen this at a couple of Yorkshire beer festivals since.

Cask at the Anchor Inn, Digbeth, Birmingham on 29th December 2011. Copper with off-white head and plenty of lacing. Ripe fruits aroma, some yeastiness. Liquid was bittersweet, quite malty and nutty, but with berry fruits. Finish is bittersweet along same lines. Slightly oily, soapy mouthfeel and a medium body.

Blond in colour. Aroma is sweet, fruity & hoppy. This has a really well balanced taste. It’s got a creamy feel from the malt but still retains a nice level of hoppiness too.

Cask, handpump at The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield 17.03.12 in company of dad & Barry Sweet, fruity in flavour in fact quite full flavoured. Soft in the mouth, hoppy with a dry and citrus finish. Drinks rather well for a 5% beer. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
