Bottle. Gorgeous rose color, large pink head. Aroma of softly sour raspberry, citrus. Taste is softly sour fruit. Doesn’t taste very berliner weissey, but more like a very nice lambic. Reminds me of Rose de Gambrinus. Delicious. Nice to see this one in DC!

Bottle shared at Zwanze Day 2012 by arminjewell. Thanks! Pours a bit hazy golden appearance with a fairly white head. Fairly fruity, lemon, light banana, somewhat spicy yeasty aroma. Kind of chewy bready, somewhat boozy, straw, straw, somewhat fruity flavor. I really didn’t care much for this.

Bottle @ Crooked Stave Zwanze Day 2012, shared by arminjewell. Thanks Armin! Pours a deep black appearance with a dark brown head. Dark chocolate, light coffee, fairly roasty, dark fruity, just a touch spicy aroma. The chilis mostly kick in near the end after you get all of the roasty chocolate, plum/raisin goodness. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Bottle shared at the Richmond Industry Gathering. First Pipeworks beer I’ve tried, and this was a little late in the tasting, so I basically picked it out based on the name. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized frothy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, herbal hops and stone fruits. The taste is toffee with herbal, citrus and minty hops. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Decent.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 506 between Portland and Seattle (from Binny’s South Loop) 08/11/12. Batch # 010. Dark black with a big dirty tan head - this looks the bollocks! Nose is dark roast malt, light hops, chocolate, molasses, leather, wood, tobacco, touch of smoke. Taste follows, bitter chocolate, a little hops, some pine, a touch of soap. Full bodied with soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, dry bitter finish. Good stuff but this really came across as to me more of a stout than a Black IPA! I was picking up pine and hops and bitterness, but the stout elements maybe shaded it 55-45 for me !

Bottle. Pours a clear ruby pinkish red with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of tart raspberries with a hint of sweetness and a nice crispness. Flavor has more of a reserved tartness from the raspberries that have a bit of an earthy note but the tartness does grow through the finish.

Bottle courtesy of noodleuser, thanks! Hazy yellow color, white head. Aroma of peppery straw, hay, grass. The black pepper comes into the taste late, but it’s very obvious once it appears.

Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours black with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of musty roasted malts with dark chocolate with oak coming through in the finish. Flavor starts with a bit of sweet cherry but is quickly taken over by dark chocolate and roasted malts.
