Draft at Alter. Ruddy beer color, some Nelson lace already clinging to the sides. Slight brett and hay-y saison nose, not much currant to find yet. Nice tart palate, and the currants now come in, kind of as a separate thread. That slight tartness leads to a dry mouthfeel, just to be different. Just nice.

Draft at Ballydoyle. Straw to amber color, a this ring of foam around the edge. Up close, the nose is your basic blend of American Pale Ale hops. Resin and pine, perhaps a bit of orange peel and grass clippings. Taste has a hip bitterness, slightly more elevated than your usual IPA, with a light, slightly dry malt that stays out of the way.

Discounted 6-pack, marked Sip by 6-10-22. Clear, brassy amber color, sudsy head. Very light, slightly tart fruit nose. But the taste is nicely tart. First like a small tropical fruit, and then a definite German white wine tang. No hard carbonation like a Berliner Weisse, just regular beer gas. Beer delivers exactly the taste profile its deception suggests.

Draft at Alter. Big lemony smell, no doubt about that. Otherwise, a typically hazy American wheat with a thin layer of leggy foam. Taste is kind of a tart lemonade. Goes into a Berliner territory, but just almost. Once I'm used to the tart lemon, it's most welcome on a warm day. Not some weak-ass shandy, but a regular strength beer with lemon added.

Plastic cup at Rotary GroveFest, Downers Grove. Got a full, frothy head with a smell of orange juice and pine resin. Deep hazy gold color that I need to blow the foam aside to see in the opaque plastic cup. First taste impression is a hearty, thick mouthfeel. Texture, though not the sweetness, of concentrated orange juice. Sharply bitter American hop with supporting malts, then more tropical fruit notes. Slight oats and wheat help make this a bit creamy. Good to sit down with at a festival tent on a hot sunny day.

Draft at Alter. Deep brown color, flight highlights from carbonation, and a thin ring of foam. Barrel-aged smell of vanilla, notes of toffee and Nutella. Nice warm Bourbon taste up front. Hazelnut again as described, and of course the toffee I found on the nose. Very comforting to sit with after a long day of monocular election judging. Oak and vanilla in the background, as well as a bit of cured tobacco leaf. Very sticky remnants on the lips.

12 oz. can. Pours with a lot of grassy hop, and then some citrus behind it. Hazy yellow color with a big wheat beer head. Taste is a more basic wheat beer note. Bitterness is less pronounced than the nose suggested. Then a bit of light orange juice and tropical fruit, too. Goes down nicely.
