6 oz. taster pour at the brewery. It's an opaque black with brown at the bottom of the glass, nice sparkle at the edges, thin ring of khaki head with good persistence and light lacing. Aroma is subtle roasted malts and mild caramel. Taste is good strength roasted earthy malt with toffee. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with creamy smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, appearance, aroma and flavor all competent but mouthfeel is exceptional.

6 oz. taster pour at the brewery. It's a cloudy dark brown with no sparkle, finger-width khaki nitro head with excellent retention and decent soapy lacing. Aroma is subtle roasted malt. Taste is sweet roasted malt with minerals. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with soft, frothy nitro texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, not the boldest aroma and flavor and not complex but competent. Drinks more like a European porter.

Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is strong roasted malt, molasses, chocolate and bourbon, all in good balance. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with creamy, frothy texture, soft carbonation, light alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, taste beats aroma with good strength, balance and complexity.

Sample at the source. Dark brown somewhat opaque with and a bubbly tan head that slowly dissipates. Earthy bitter hops with more roast than I was expecting, missing the chocolate.
