I have not figured out why ratebeerians love barrel aged beer. If you want whiskey, drink it, if you want beer, drink it, why flavor beer with a whiskey barrel? BTW imperial stout is not my thing either so if you like impy stout, flip my numbers and get this, it’s unusually on terrible style. Big & black. Big choco moose head. Whisky is palatably present all over. Mouth coating impy stout, kicks you in the jaw. Volatile. Way too much for this lager lover. Just way too much. I detect a tad of tartness but that may be my mind going dizzy towards the end of this glass, whew. Nasty nellie rototiller smack you in the face right here on route 8!

Look, I’m not a fan of spiced holiday brews but if you are, you must try this. Reddish orange & pale. Barely any nose, surprising since it is so spiced up. Taste is quite sweet and the spices are not over the top and in yer face. However, they are certainl present as they override the beer characters. Some decent co2 and the spices become a little volatile in the middle. Just can’t get used to this style but I thought i’d give it a try anyhow. Yes, better than the average holiday brew.

Look, I’m not a fan of IPA, so flip my numbers if you are. Pale clear beer. Perhaps there is a tad of orange in the eye as well. Ever so slight hop perfume nose. Yes, typical IPA. Hoppy with an inclination of of bitter hops abound. Belgian infrequence is hard to detect, simply a terribly on style IPA. Quite fresh. Fairly flat.

Tap at the source. Aesthetics is big & black and large & in-charge. Slight sweet maple syrup nose. Mild stout aromas as well. First taste is a little bit of smoked beer. Maple is quite apparent on the first taste, seems to have lots of unfermented sugar in there. This is all on a backbone of old damp partially burned campfire wood. Somewhat volatile in the middle. Not bad overall but the maple sweetness almost makes it a little cloying, but never quite gets there.

Tap at source. Slight haze on a pale beer. Hay flavors from the start. Not bad! Easy to take, a very mild brew that hides its alky content rather well. Some citrus but not bitter. Friendly and easy going, could drink a few of these. Good manners and a clean fresh beery aroma.

Bocktown tap. Cloudy pale cider. I think I detect an every so slight hint of cinnamon on top of the tart apple nose. Good tart initial feel on this one. Much better than my own home brewed dry cider. even tho its fermented out without much if any sugar left, this stuff really comes across enjoyable with a nice tart, perhaps granny smith, tartness. A real example of what a balanced dry cider should be. Good job!

Sampled on draft at Bocktown this beer poured a murky tan-brown color with a medium sized creamy off whitehead that left good lacing. The aroma was toffee, yeast, dough and vague fruity hops. The flavor was sweet fruity hops, toffee, yeast, sugar, pineapple and ginger. Long finish with some alcohol showing through. Full bodied. Excellent.
