I've arrived 2 days too late in Carlisle for the official West Walls birthday celebrations, that bash was on the 26th, but the celebratory beer is a good one. Very hazy and full of lightly-sweet tropical fruit notes in both aroma and taste, coupled with a good body.

First beer on a day out in Carlisle after a few ciders earlier in the day. Not a bad start, dry and flavoursome roasted malt brew, overlooking the West Walls of the city at West Walls!

Gravicask, half-pint, shared with Finn. A deep, brown body under a fawn-coloured, bubbly head, fragile lacing. Malt-berry aromas, scents of berry skins and mid-sweet malts, promising. Quite similar taste of ripe berry moments and caramel malts. Lightly roasted tail, mid dry and mid sweet. Pretty alright.

Gravicask, half-pint, shared with Finn. Warm golden body, film-type layer, poor lacing. Moderately lemony hops on the nose, grassy. Ripe fruity moments to the taste buds, hints of lemon and cereal malts. Discreet bitterness to the ending. Easy going, just okay.

Cask at Pig's Ear. Clear amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Sweet malts, a sweet caramel and toffee. Sweet berry fruits and light esters. Turns tangy toffee at the end. Light and semi dry finish. Alright, flavoursome but needs something else to balance the sweetness.
