Brought back by my parents from a world cruise: green 375ml bottle, best before 21 Oct 2013. Poured into a Duvel glass on 23 May 2012. Really impressed with this beer: golden with a huge white head. Great tasting brew with a yeasty, piney nose. It may well be classed as a german Pilsner by the brewers but it carries a lot more bite, flavour and body than any other beer I’ve had in that style. Another reason why I’d like to visit New Zealand.

37,5cl bottle from Annam Gourmet Market, Saigon. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Light wheat aroma with yeast and citrus. Light and fruity and quite weak flavourwise. Finish is lighlty yeasty and slightly citric. Light and watery and quite boring, but still refreshing. (2012-05-11)

375mL bottle, pours black with a voluminous beige / tan head. Aroma of roast, chalk, some woody notes, red wine and subtle coffee. Flavour brings out a very vinous dominated character, with oak, slight tartness, and red wine - finishing on red wine and boozy notes. Palate is light-bodied for the style, almost completely overtaken by the wine, and quite alcohol. Decent impy.

Pours solid black with a large, lasting head.Nose shows char, roasted malt, cocoa and dark chocolate with a little smoke.Similar flavours, but less complex. Roasted malt, booze. Not much else.Body could be a bit thicker.Pretty straightforward, whereas considering the alcohol content I would expect something more complex.

Pours amber with a large, lasting head.Nose shows citrus peel, coriander, sweet malt and doughy wheat. Very floral and sweet.Flavours are less impressive; some coriander and doughy wheat along with citrus peel, but a bit too much booze shows through.Carbonation is nicely high.

Pours pale gold with a large, fading head.Nose shows bubblegum, cherries, floral notes, banana, lollies, roses. Seems pretty artificial though.Similar flavours; bubblegum, cherries, musk sticks. Too artificial and sweet.Way too much carbonation.Definitely interesting but a bit cloying.

333 c&c from Malt & Vine. How not to love beer from Blenheim! Pours very dark brown/black with a creamy tan head. The aroma is unexpected. It’s vinous. Inhaling deeply I get chocolate. Trying hard I get a bit of coffee. Full + bodied. Almost champagne carb. Flavor is vinous, oaky, chocolate, even smooth burnt malt. :) Develops a bit of darkish grape towards the finish. I do not know how to break down the flavor profile. It’s just amazing. Finish is something like a mix of astringent oak and burnt malt. Great ale.

333 c&c from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy light gold with a slight, fizzy white head. Nice aroma of mixed floral and cherry. With a little banana in the background. Med body, almost. Flavor is more bitter than not, and the floral/fruit combo is almost like perfume. The fruit is arguably cherry, and there’s no significant sugar present, so it’s perfume, fruit and dry. Finishes like that.

Hazy pale. The aroma is quite yeasty with a nice pear fruitiness, but also some band-aidy phenols. Full body for the style, with lots of yeasty accents. No special character, here, though. The yeast dries it out quite a bit.

(bottle) Poured hazy straw coloured with a big white head. Rich and complex aroma with spices and sweet esters. Light body with plentiful bright carbonation. Flavour starts lightly fruity (citrus with banana hints) and moves to a nice complex spicy bitter finish. Overall a very impressive and drinkable beer.
