From bottle, 4B Papsoes New Zealand vs US blind tasting. Pours hazy dark orange to amber with a lacing off white head. Caramel malt aroma. Mild roasted and light fruity. Light acidic note and mild roasted. Solid caramel malt into the finish. Acidic and bitter finish with a hardroasted note.

From bottle, 3B Papsoes New Zealand vs US blind tasting. Pours hazy orange with a diminished white head. Spiced and light hoppy fruity aroma. Flavour is light spiced hoppy with a little sharp edge. Light caramel malt with nice spice note on top. Lingering hoppy and spiced finish.

(Bottle 37,5 cl) Pours a hazy golden with a creamy, white head leaving some lacework. Aroma of yeast and malts. Medium in body with sweetish banana esters and some yeast. The finish is dry and phenollic. Reminds me more of a German Hefe actually. 130208

Medium body with a very soid malt base, a heavy carbonation with huge bubbles and a little yeast. Very flowery hopping that also leaves a distinct bitterness. Huge yeast sediment. Exciting. 050208

(Bottle 37,5 cl) Pours a cloudy golden with a tall, rough, white head. Fresh aroma of cherries. Medium-bodied with a subdued malt feel and a dry - yet lightly sweet and fairly distinct cherry note. Somewhat astringent and sulphurish finish. But a very decent, dry cherry beer. 260108

Slight haze, ruby-brown beer, beautiful; very good yellow-cream head, stable. Roasted, near roasted coffee beans aroma, just a touch earthy. Good! Coffee, coffee cream. Like a light coffee stout, when bottom-fermented of course. Light, but not at all empty; slick, creamy even. Nice! Very good light, stout-like beer. More and more Baltic porter are top-fermented, here’s a beer tasting like a stout for all the world, bottom-fermented. Great find, Stef!

Bottle from Bottle Barn. Aroma of rich dark roasted malt that is not burnt, and is somewhat chocolatey. The color is deep ruby, if viewed under very strong light; otherwise nearly opaque. The white head collapsed rapidly. Medium bodied with full and creamy carbonation - no bite. The flavor is mellow dark roast malt with dark chocolate aspects. A very slight touch of underlying sour. The finish is not sweet; the malt continues; some bitter pops up for balance. The whole thing is a bit earthy, like fresh mushrooms, but that’s just the backdrop for really great flavor. At US $30+ for a six pack it’s not likely to be an everyday quaff, but I am glad to have been able to enjoy it. Perhaps as close to stout as a lager is likely to get.

Aroma of light sweet malt and citrus, perhaps floral hop. Hazy golden color with a decent white head. Medium body with fizzy, approaching creamy, carbonation. Flavor is interesting and complex light fruit. Definitely some citrus. The finish is pretty dry, lightly bitter, crisp and clean. It is very good. Perhaps in the top ten lagers I’ve ever had. Maybe better than that. The bitter really persists in the long finish.

Green bottle. Something of a lightly spicy, citrus aroma. Golden color with a decent white head. Almost medium bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor seems to have cardamom and light orange peel. A very slight sweetness. Turns a bit bready as the finish approaches. The finish is dry and lightly bitter. Floral hop? Very pleasant drink.
